picked up a super cheap x800 GTO card, but the noise it creates is almost ridiculous, ruined my quiet pc :( I thought these were supposed to slow the fan speed when not under load, but this one doesnt seem to bother. I thought maybe windows aero was putting some load on it, so i tried basic and it made no difference. Does anybody know a way to shut this thing up because if not i'm going back to onboard, sod this :(
 
Yup x800's was noisy poop's, i had a x850xt, and it was a beast!... of a roar that was, was noisy! great card tho.
Why dont you download ATI Tool, and ajust the fan speed to slow it down? :)
 
X850 coolers were similar to that of the X1800/1900's?

I had an X800XT PE which had a single slot cooler and I have to say it was not that noisy at all, ok for a totally 100% quiet PC it would ruin it but they were about the same level as my 8800GT, idle they were silent, in games you can hear a slight woosh, nothing loud like.
 
I had an X850, got an Arctic Cooling replacement cooler from O.C. as it was a racket & a half, worked well, much better. I don't suppose they stock them now.
 
yeah they are noisy :) i had a gigabyte passilivly cooled x800xl wich was awesome :) no fans just huge gold heatsink looked great also lol shame it died other week in my spare pc :(
