I have an asus x800 xtpe that I bought while it was on offer from the store.
I have experienced an occasional issue with the display corrupting usually whilst in mixed mode. (3d window on desktop 2d {not full screen 3d}) I thought that the issue was power related because I often got the “beep beep plug in the aux power stupid” warning.
So I replaced the ~550W psu with a 700W+ unit so I know that power is no longer an issue, also I have not seen the beep beep at start up error since.

The gpu is the AGP verity, and is not oced, inital testing showed that ocing was not going to be an option using ati-tool set the max oc to 530 core and 565 mem, very tame settings, and got a corrupt display when ether of the find max clock buttons was pressed.

However it has recently (with the warmer weather?) become a problem once more, mainly when playing civ4 in a window (resolution of 1152*164/ desktop @ / > 1440*1050x2 @85/100/120hz)

i am more likly to leave civ4 runing than F.E.A.R, for instance, for prelonged periods but played HL2 for 2 hours with out ishue just recently.

Scan for artefacts has passed each time test done @ stock since new psu but gpu temp races to 70˚C in about 3 seconds and then rises to 80 after about 30 minutes. I would rather not increase my fan speeds or change the cooling unless absolutely necessary.

The clearance is limited as I require to position my raid adapter in slot 2 (66/64bit) this leaves only one free slot for air.

The case has a 90 mm2 fan on the side that directs air over the raid and gpu processors also there is a 120mm fan just above these.

Cpus 2x XP2500+ @ 2100mhz withy L5 MP modification <50˚C each at load
North-bridge 760 MPX

i would rather not have to replace the cooling.

--> edit: thanks benjo i forgot about the drivers
. ^^
drivers are Omega 3.8.231 i think that makes them cat 6.2 or 6.3 bassed the install file was "rad_w2kxp_omega_38231_7z.exe" i dont like CCC

Welcome to the forums. :)

Id say 80's a bit to high for an x800 XT PE, my x1800 XT 512mb doesn't even get that hot gaming for hrs, only goes to about 71, you could try taking the HSF off and applying some AS5 to see if that helps. :)

Welcome :)

I've got the exact same card, and mine reached those temps whilst gaming, and never had a problem..(Replaced cooler now) So it might not be heat related.. Have you got the latest drivers etc installed?

dust could be a posibility... But i filter my intakes and its allways done it ever since new as i said thought it was not getting the required amps.

since no one can sergest a fix and im not guna replace the cooling how do i get an rma for this?

btw updated to the latetes drivers using omegas tho still wont use ccc (big thanks to ati for managing to keep there site up to date the 2k driver link goes to the old 6.2 driver)
also it find errors when i scan for artifacts even after re installing ati tool. oh and its atitool 0.25 beta 14 is that the most recent?

sounds like the heatsink isnt fitted to the core right (thermal issue I had this problem too and it was the heatsink wasnt fitted righ)t.

I have an msi x800xtpe agp 61 at full load on stock fan heatsink combo once refittied and as5 used.

well dust was not an ishue but iv pulled off the heat sink now and therfore have no warenty but it might be ok for the time being.

What i found was the Thermal Interface Material was thick and did not give even contact with the whole core.

It looks like the TIM was applied in a cirrcle leaving the midle of the gpu bare.

If i had a digicam i would post pics but you will have to take my word for it, but there was no contact with 50% of the GPU!

Thats basicly unacceptable (the paste). Is this a support forums or just a geeky community? should i complain to asus ? thats not got me far in the past.

I now have no warrenty and since this is an asus product that scares the .., well you can finish that sentance your selves. ##

as another point no spell checker? i cant spell to save my life who knows if any one can read this.

there are 0003 types of people or for u, KarlMcWade 00011

edit should have said gpu temp rises to 70 very slowly now room temp 24 case 33 gpu enviroment 48 all temps in degress celcius ( cpu 1 and 2 ~ 50)
