I've got XBMC set up on my media PC with a 2TB internal drive with all my dvd and blu ray rips on (Films and TV shows)

Some of the files I playback suffer from some stuttering and if I skip the scene, it can take a slight while before playback is smooth. The drive is down to the last couple of gig free. Would this cause any playback issues?

My rig itself is...AMD X2 250 3ghz, 12GB memory, onboard audio and display, 250GB boot drive and 2TB back up drive

Can anyone give me any recommendations in speeding up the playback so I can cut out the stuttering? I never noticed the issues before

Getting 2 gig almost full could be adding to the issue but shouldnt really give you that much trouble. You could leave it on overnight doing a defrag so it would line up all the massive files on the same sections of drive that might certainly help matters but what kind of gfx are you using to display the films and also what kind of resolution are you running it could be that is your bottleneck.

i have this problem with xbmc also but i think it's just poor video handling by xbmc, mythtv frontend starts much faster from pause, fast forward or rewind on the same hardware.

Also had these issues. However it was on a nettop ION setup... I blamed that.

I'm sure it's down to your graphics. Is this only on HD content? It was with me.

I'll try defragging the drive with movies on to start with, see if that helps. XBMC is running everything in HD 1920 res.

To be honest ive not noticed if its only on HD content but what I was watching last night was HD so I'll have to have a look and see what else stutters.

GFX wise I only have onboard graphics and audio. The motherboard I have is a socket am3 gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H. Im not sure exactly but it's an AMD chipset

Press 'o' on your keyboard when playing a video, it will bring up all the info on the current video playing. Have a look at the refresh rate it is playing the video at. It may not be stuttering but instead it is trying to play the video at 60hz when I imagine it is a 23.976hz video. This will cause repeated/lost frames often, which can make it look like it is struggling to play them. It also shows your cpu usage on there so that'll be handy to know.

Also have you tried closing xbmc and starting it back up? If you put your pc to sleep within the software and wake it back up then it can sometimes have stuttering.

Tried the inbetweeners bluray that appears to stutter.
Pressed o and fps is around 25 and CPU 2 core is averaging anything between 5 and 20
Found on the net a potential fix of enabling an option to sync video to match source, tried that but no difference

Is there any other settings I could potentially try before thinking about buying new hardware?

That sounds right, 25fps is too fast. Have a look in the video info again, should be hanging close to 23.976 area. Glad you have sorted it though, and with using the onboard graphics it'll be fine even with the largest 1080p files.
