I've download XMBC 13.1 Gotham to use on my Dell Insprion laptop that'll be hooked up to my TV

Its an i7, 16GB memory with dedicated graphics so is more than capable of HD playback however, I'm suffering from lots of buffering during playback

What would be causing this and what can I do to resolve the issue?

Have you changed the rendering option. Cant remember exactly where it is in settings but it allows you change from software to hardware rendering

playback is smooth for several minutes then buffers, its like watching a video on youtue

It won't be the hardware, I've got a Samsung XE7001T that has a dual core i5, 4GB of RAM and an Intel 4000 GPU and that copes with full HD playback absolutely no problem.

I would suspect it's to do with your wireless connection, assuming that you are running wirelessly.

As a precaution and because it was HD videos I had it connected with wires on the network

Ah, well that is odd. Well I have mine connected at 300Mb wireless which has been more than enough to stream my HD movies without any issues, as well as getting the full 152Mb from my internet connection. It does appear to be related to networking in some way though, or at least data bandwidth somewhere.

Try setting the audio setting to WASAPI in XBMC, may help.

Was going to suggest fiddling with sound output. Set your skin to confluence, then set it to advanced view. (not all skins show advanced settings).

Then when you get it working, jump back to your selected skin

I'd update your audio and graphics drivers too.

Checked the graphics drivers and they're up to date so will check audit and try adjusting to WASAPI when I get in

I had a similar issue with my router.

Try it over Ethernet connection 1st to see if you get the same issue, if not move a large file over the network via wireless and check the speed.

Even though I've got a decent Asus router my laptop's wireless card was gash and I could only get about 2-3 mb/s via wifi, wired I get massively more and everything streams perfectly.

Powerlines cured it for me.

Updated graphic and sound drivers but no change.

Laptop is connected to routed via ethernet cable and still no change

I also have a Lenovo media PC that used to have XBMC on that I used to use as the main media PC and that now also suffers from buffering
