Xbox 360 & 19 inch widescreen moniters

It was through component to Samsung LE26R73BD, so i obviously imagined it then :s

I was most likely so excited about having a 360 finally after they'd been out for a year that going through all the menus I imagined it!

It's running lovely at 720p anyway just wandered if there was an option to run it at it's native res (1366x768??) rather than at 720p as currently i guess the TV has to do a limited amount of scaling? And i was told that 360 scaler is most likely better.

It seems that samsung have taken all the R7's off their site?

Edit: Oh that was the american site, fair enough. Think i'll go back to bed now.

Even at 1360x768 the 360 will scale anyway as it natively outputs everything (apart from PGR3) at 720p.

If you output via VGA (official lead is about £20 or so) you can run 1360x768 using that however I doubt you will notice much difference (If any at all) - I didn't although everyone is different.

geeez looked worse on vga ? ill leave it on my normal tv for now i think, just looks overall better to me

Not worse it actually looks sharper on VGA but looks to washed out (colours seem drained).

I will try it again this even on vga and report back on my findings.

*space in post for my findings*

So i take it if you have a widescreen tft set at native res 1440x900 and set the 360 to 1360x768 & widescreen on the dashborad
this get rid of the black bands at the top and bottom that you would have if just used a normal tft ???

Yes that is correct, the black bands at the top and bottom of the screen during games would be gone (this is because it is a widescreen res montior).

Right I had a good game on the 360 last night on both VGA and Component (both through my Saumsung HDTV) and here are my findings. (All findings from matches on BF2:MC)

VGA (set to 1280x720) : The image was slightly sharper than component however also looked ever so blurred. The colours however were well crap. Everything looked very bland and dull. Also shadows were far too bright which spoiled some of the atmosphere on BF2.

Overall decent picture but lacking in colour depth.

Component: Far richer colours than VGA. Really helped with the atmosphere of BF2.
Slight downside is that jaggies in BF2 are more apparent possibly as said above as VGA was slightly blurred (almost like quincunx AA on early nvidia cards) however in a fast paced game like BF2 I don't stare at straight edges so the lack of AA isn't an issue for me.
Overall the slightly less sharper image was outweighed by the far richer colours.

Overall: Component > VGA

IMO thats way off, after what i saw today. I nipped into town to get import tuner challenge from GAME (can i say that store, i dno) and lego star wars was playing on a SAMSUNG HDTV (looked like this a bit. I dont know the model but they are the same black ones used in all GAME stores. LEgo star wars 2 was playing - a game i have just completed, using VGA on my 19" widscreen. I had a close look at game and a quick go on the first level and honestly couldn't tell the difference at all. I'mn using the 19" hanns G widescreen too. Maybe its just a crap HDTV game are using and HDTV is miles better, but i was definately stumped to notice a difference today.

Most people say that VGA looks a bit more washed out than Comonent. I don't use component myself, and use MS offical VGA lead with my 2007FPW.

To those that are saying its more washed out, have you tried it since the dash update? a lot of people have said that it has fixed the washed out look, or at the very least made it less noticable.

Strangely, if you are interested in HD DVD, VGA is the best, because its the only way to get the full res apparently.

Again though, i have stared at the lego star wars screen for ages trying to get 100% complete and just noticed it being played in GAME today. The colors looked the game and i really can't see where people get this sensation that everything is washed out using VGA. Personally i think 360 games look amazing at present on my hanns :)

I just wrote my personal findings. :)

Please note though I only used BF2 for my tests. VGA made the dark areas of the game (shadows etc) too bright in comparison to component.

I will test Lego star wars and see if there is any difference.
