Is there a definitive list of what connects and what doesn't? I know that keyboards, mice and usb keys work (I've tried all three) but am I right in thinking that external HDs don't? I'm assuming this is so m$ can sell another hard drive at an inflated price....?

You are wrong AFAIK. They have never stopped you adding a hard disk via the usb ports. The only limitations on them is the content that can be stored on the USB disk (not marketplace stuff or saves IIRC)

Yes you can attach external hard drives to the 360 via USB. The hard drive partitions need to be in FAT32 and movie files need to be WMV's, MP3 files work fine.

you can buy an external hd for the 360 that connects through the memory card port and basically acts like a 60gb memory card or something but pc external hds cn't be used to store xbox 360 specific stuff. You can't use pc wireless adapters either. If someone could make a lead that connects to a hd then to the memory card port that would be cool.

I used a little known search engine called "Google"
Found this

I bow down to your superior wisdom and particularly your clever use of sarcasm....

Yes, the first thing I did was google (it's *always* the first thing I do when trying to find answers) and got conflicting information, particularly regarding usb 2.0 drives - some stating that a usb adapter was needed to convert from usb 2.0 to usb 1.0....

Don't always assume people don't search first, but generally I ask here because people are honest and knowledgeable. And (bizarrely enough) manage normally not to be sarcastic.

I thought mice didn't work?

Sorry dude, didn't mean it as sarcastic as it came out.
Apologies, was just meant to be a tad tongue in cheek, but rereading it I just sound like a tit.

Lol - it's funny you should say that, cos I re-read my reply and I sounded like a tard as well.

Just shows, never assume emotion from people's words.

Thanks for all the advice guys... I'm going to get a WD MyBook HD to store my mp3's. As far as I can see, as long as it's FAT32, I should have no problems.

Good choice, i have the 500gb model and it is a very nice bit of kit. Got it for a bargain price from a large online retailer.

Correct me if im wrong but dont all new WD externals ship with NTFS? If so you will need to reformat it to FAT32 using PartitionMagic or similar application.
