Hi guys,

I have just bought myself a Xbox 360 from a friend, I have it 'hooked' up to my network but its telling me it cant connect to my PC.
I've tried to install the Windows Media Connect 2.0 program, but cant get it to work as I dont have Service Pack 2 installed.

Personally I hate service pack 2 and wouldnt install it if someone paid me to, so I was just wondering if there is a way around installing it or if I'm doomed because I have to?

If so, I just wont bother :D

Its a great console, graphics and sound is awesome... Shame I dont have a HD TV :(

I have had a quick read so hopefully something might happen... I just dont like Service Pack 2 as I have heard and had problems installing and then, uninstalling it... Just cant be bothered with doing that all over again!!

tbh sp 2 is not bad anymore, i havent had any trouble with it on any of my PC's or the ones in work, you may want to look into sticking it on, also i think MS are going to withdraw updates etc for anything not with SP2, but it might be anything below SP1 can't remember

I'll see about downloading it again then... Is it worth having a fresh install and just installing Service Pack 2 first or do I have to install Service Pack 1 and then Pack 2?

Is it affecting performance or anything? When I installed it last, it was adding icons and software in places I didnt want ie Explorer and so on... Just kept getting in the way....

nah u can go from nothing to SP2, u dont need SP1

I havent noticed any drain on performance, and any icons it adds/ defaults it changes (i assume u mean it stick ie on the desktop) can easily be switched off.

U might wanna ask in the Windows/software forum for peps thoughts on SP2, they might give you some better ideas ;)

Many thanks for the tips and hints, I will do a fresh install anyways and install service pack 2 later :)

I'll try and do a before and after thingy... I'm sure the guys and gals (if any?) will help :)

Like it on this forum :)

Not had 1 issue with Service Pack 2 installing or uninstalling, it's perfect. The only minor gripe I have is that it's got a permanent notification for whether your firewall etc.. is up.

How do you mean permanent? You know you can tick a box to say you'll monitor it yourself and stop showing warnings right? :)

you run a great risk without service pack 2, ive known PC's to go down in hours from all the security holes.

SP2 is a must for any home computer, the only issues arise when running older hardware which sometimes doesnt like it. If your on a modern <3yr old PC you MUST HAVE SP2!!!

I make at least £4-500 per week just because loads of people dont keep windows up to date, in fact if it wasnt for twonks like vernon kay on radio1 who get on 'experts' spouting the worst PC advice ever i think id be jobless!!

Yes, but if you turn off automatic updates you have the icon in the bottom corner constantly telling you! I know the updates are off because I turned them OFF!! ARGH!

Install TwonkyMedia, does everything Windows Media Connect does and you can stream internet radio to your xbox360. I listen to all my fav Shoutcast radio stations.

Also, if you turn of all alerting there is no security centre icon in the taskbar.

Control Panel, Security Center, Change the way Security Center alerts me; uncheck what you don't want to be alerted about.

Ah I'm with you. Well I have the answer for you... turn automatic updates on ffs :D
Yeah, I do now, but before I used to play online games on my PC often and it always seemed to wait until an important game before downloading one, so I would schedule it for a certain time and it would install them when I wanted my PC on all night downloading something and it would restart PC. So I again changed it to autodownload and manual install, but it would annoy me with alerts all the time!

I love you.

have you checked out the support guide on xbox.com. Sorry if I am teaching a grandmother to suck eggs, but there is/ was an issue depending on what version of net framework you have on the pc. Uninstalling/ reinstalling sp2 with the newer version should solve this, but you should be able to do it just by altering the version of net you have, worked for me.
