xbox 360 controller boot up

Does an xbox require a controller to be inserted in order for it to boot up.. I have just aquired an xbox 360 and it boots up onto a solid green, but nothing is on screen. I haven't got any controllers at the moment.

The 360 you can switch on from the power button on the console with no controller turned on or plugged in.

it powers on flashes 4 green lights and then goes to a solid green light, but nothing on the screen

Sounds knackered

Check the TV out cable isn't set to HD (little switch on the side).

What are you connecting it your tv via?

Have you tried resetting the display settings?

no, it needs to be on before you can link any controllers to it

I'm using Xbox 360 Composite AV Cable and it's sounding more like it's a dead Xbox 360

I haven't got any controllers at the moment, but would still expect a signal.
