Xbox 360 controller drifting left

So my afterglow xbox controller has started to drift left on it's own, if you let go of the sticks the camera slowly starts turning left, it's getting really annoying trying to play like this, fps are nearly impossible

a quick google search shows this is a widespread problem and seems to happen a lot.

Just wondering if anyone knows a fix for this that doesn't involve taking the thing apart, last time i did this i ruined my controller and it no longer worked :mad:

Or does anyone know of another third party controller that doesn't suffer from this :confused:

Never had this problem myself but if the afterglow is anything like the official controller it's really easy to take apart and put back together.

Why does it have to be 3rd party? :confused:

Take it apart and reassemble would be my first port of call, if that fails just buy an official wired or wireless pad.

The reason i said third party is if you google xbox controller drift, 99% of the problems are with the official microsoft one, so i was just wondering if anyone knows of another controller that does not suffer from this

Oh right, never had any issues with controller drift on any of the official 360 pads I've ever used over the course of 8 years! The pads are pretty solidly built.

I think all my Xbox 360 controllers have had this issue. Going through all of the generations of them, even my current GOW3 themed one has the issue, never annoyed me enough to bother about it to be honest.

Just a quick flick to the right sorts the drift to the left out.

When the controller is connected it sets the axis for the sticks, so if they are out, not centred when the unit comes on, then that will be the position of the 'centre'. If that makes sense sorry, hah.

Try reconnecting while you hold the pad in your hands, without disturbing the sticks.

i use a wireless xbox 360 controller and i have no issues with this drift

I had a controller (official xbox) do this. Took it apart, cleaned all the plastics with a good scrub in a sink with warm soapy water and a nail brush. Dusted all the mechanics and put back together. Controller was like new. Took 30 minutes in total.

It's not hard nor rocket science. If you can build a desktop PC, you can easily do the controller. Just remember the order of the buttons haha.

Mine did this after raging too hard on FIFA. Took it apart and sorted it though lol.

Try increasing the deadzone in game if available, or look for 3rd party software that can do it (e.g. Xpadder)
