My Xbox 360 is a year a 3 days old today & I have noticed that the tops of the left analogue sticks on my two wireless contollers have started to wear as well as my thumb!

Just wondered if anyone has done any maintenance to there controllers, by swapping the right analogue with the left one or something as it hardly gets used as much & does anyone know what type of screwdriver is needed to open the controllers?

I've also noticed one of them has a loose bit rattling around inside which can be annoying & wanna get rid of!

The screws are little Torx ones IIRC, but you can just use a small flathead to get them out.

The thumbsticks are more than likely swappable, but not sure how much hassle it would be.

There is also a screw under a sticker in the battery compartment if you decide to take it apart ;)

Does anyone know which torx it is? Looks like the torx has to be one of those star shaped ones with a hole in the middle because they look like security screws & the torx has to be quite long and thin to reach some of them

my daughter used the 360 controller after having sticky hands and the buttons have stuck on it ever since, its really annoying, do you know what size torx is needed to crack em open?

Thanks Kreeeee

The bits are easy to find but am trying to find a place to get a T8H driver that's long and thin enough to reach the screws in the controller

Do you have a set of miniature screwdrivers? If so just use one of those, a small flathead will work just as well.

A 2.5x50mm flathead screwdriver also works until you snap the centre pin on the security screw.

I got A set of security torx (the xbox and controller requires T6H, T8H and T10H to open) for about a tenner.

Might have someone, but would prefer to get the T8H screwdriver or a set for the toolbox & so I don't wear or damage the screws

Just tried that...

...and this happened.

Now a T8 works perfectly. :)

The screws on all my pads are not TH, just normal Torx screws without the security pin. Sounds like the company manufacturing them used different batches.

My first controller had phillips screws, second 2 had security torx.

Do a goole search for "Precision Tamperproof Torx Screwdrivers" for the tool set I got (£8.99).

Click to see the bigger image mate. You can see the shape of the bits and I have in front of me now the exact same box (0622 number code in the top right) and I guarantee you they are the right tools mate.

Edit: crafty edit there! Makes me look like a fool :p

Just opened and gave both my controllers a spring clean. Got all the dirt out of the joints, around the various buttons and triggers. Clean beneath both analogue sticks aswell.

Lovely.

Personally Id ring Microsoft and moan saying it doesnt sync correctly to your wireless headset and let them send you a replacement. Maybe thats just me....

I rang them when the rubber on my left stick split after 6 months of use, they sent me a brand new controller free of charge, no questions :)
