Microsoft reportedly confirmed the news to the Official Xbox Magazine, and revealed its biggest new feature as a service to let you download original Xbox titles like Halo.

Eventually it will make as much of its back catalogue available as possible, but for now the line-up includes Halo, Fable, Fahrenheit, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex and Burnout 3.

Each game will cost 1200 Microsoft Points (GBP 10.20 / EUR 13.96).

MS also shed some light on its European video on demand service, which will unfortunately not be included in the 4th December update.

However, big studios like Warner Bros. are apparently signing up for the rental service, which lets you download and watch your favourite films in 720p.

You should realise that once you have downloaded a film you can have it for two weeks, and once you begin watching it you will have a day to finish it - it will delete itself after that.

'Xvid Support' More like certified divx support I would imagine, but regardless there would have been more info than that about it surely. Don't see the point in the VOD service, it's cheaper to rent elsewhere and people will just download off the net and do it that way, especially if Xvid really is supported.

Are they going to patch the dashboard so it doesn't hang when you try and exit your friends list

Like the idea of downloading old Xbox games though :) Not much good unless you have an Elite or a large harddrive, and I take it you can't download the vids and games to a USB hard drive

Animated themes sound good, wish they would allow you to have your own separate pics on each blade though, rather than just one for all.

Hopefully xvid support is true as well.

If the price is right I'll be happy to rent films via a VOD service as I'll be able to watch movies in 720p without having to own a HD/Blu-Ray player.

Reported price is £5, 90% of the internet population will still download for free. If the films were £10 and for keeps then that would make a big difference for me personally.

But the problem I can see is the download speeds, Xbox Live is notoriously slow, and if you are downloading a film, it could take ages!

Please guys, post the link to where you got it. Otherwise anyone could make it up.

As for download speeds, I have never got a terrible download speed. They are only slow during major releases, such as the Bioshock demo, and even then, I did get it.

Doesn't look quite right to me.. it just looks like Xvid support was shoved in there, and there's no New infront of it.

Hope it's true though :)

Just found some more info on the xbox originals

More information on the Xbox Originals plan have popped up over on Xbox.com, and show two things. One, each game is going to have its original manual hosted as a .pdf on Xbox.com, which is a neat touch. Other is less neat. The games will, like any disc-based Xbox game running on a 360, be doing so courtesy of software emulation. Which is imperfect. And, sadly, leads to issues.
Those issues are:

Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge: There is some minor flickering at the top of the screen that happens very rarely. The "Press A to Continue" message is missing when the host player leaves a multiplayer game. Additional content within the game (such as demos & trailers) are not supported and selecting those options may result in crashing the game (requiring a restart of the console)

Fable: There are some random bursts of audio static and some minor texture issues and a short hang up when removing tattoos. Additional content within the game (such as demos & trailers) are not supported and selecting those options may result in crashing the game (requiring a restart of the console)

Fuzion Frenzy: There are some minor frame rate issues. Additional content within the game (such as demos & trailers) are not supported and selecting those options may result in crashing the game (requiring a restart of the console)

Halo: There are some very mild frame rate drops.

Psychonauts: HDMI 720p is not supported for PAL users. Running the game in 720p over HDMI will result in the game locking up for PAL users. If you are using HDMI output, set the resolution to 1080i or 1080p (anything but 720p)

Take this knowledge, learn it, absorb it, then when December 4 hits, remember: don't go mildly mashing buttons on that menu screen, it'll most likely end up in a forced reboot. And nobody wants that.
