You can perform the same task easily with a memory stick nowadays if you have one laying around.

Got myself a new Xbox to replace my dead Elite - the shop "sold" me their cable, telling me to bring it back tomorrow as they would refund me the full amount. The transfer cable was obviously well used, but did the job and brought it back in the next day, no problems.

Id imagine he picked up a new xbox so to transfer data from one HDD to the next.

I just used my USB HDD turned out to be easier than sourcing a cable.
