Xbox 360 dying ?

Hi last couple of times I have turned on the Xbox it hard locks within a couple of minutes, sometimes with a chequered effect on screen, strange thing is after a few restarts (on/off at wall too) it will eventually work and will play fine for a couple of hours.
I was just wondering if this is a common problem, maybe something to do with the recent updates, or if I have a hardware problem starting to manifest itself, the lights stay normal BTW, no reds :confused:

If I have a hardware issue, Is it best to send it back to MS or take it to the shop I bought it from ?
Would I get an instant replacement as its around 4 months old, and I guess I wouldn't be able to swap over the HDD so I dont lose my game saves ?
 
My Xbox is being collected today for repair/replace as it was suffering from gfx corruption.

I was told to just send the console, no hdd, no psu etc.

So I went with that option rather than returning the whole lot to the store etc.

This is what happened to my mates xbox 360 right before it died.
 
Yep, just locked out with gfx corruption loading the next race twice now, looks like its on its way ..... only MS can make a console less reliable than a PC :D :rolleyes:

I take it yours was bought online CocoPops ?

Another thing, how do I retain my live sub, is that done under username or console ?

Yep, bought online.

The Live! sub is tied to your user id, not the console.
If you keep the HDD, then you just plug it into your next console and off you go :)
 
hmm if they let me keep the HDD, its part of the package so prolly has to go with it .... having said that I am not sure that I have a console problem ....

I just played 15-20 mins of oblivion, followed by another 15-20 of PGR3 and another 15-20 of TR3 no probs, onto MotoGP06 and locks within minutes, I am thinking maybe its a game issue, it used to be fine but ATM it seems its the only thing causing probs, perhaps an xbox update is messing with it ?
 
Well mine is a premim pack and they specifically told me to keep the HDD and just send them the console for repair.

I even took the faceplate off as I have the ltd ed PGR3 faceplate.
 
Mine did exactly the same today :( had it since the release day but yesterday did the chequered effect and today wouldnt turn on and did the 3 red lights on the ring of light. Spoke to MS and UPS are picking it up tommorow for repair. Now what to do for the next 10-15 days :confused:
 
LoL crazy TBH.
If I had one die, and got replaced, and that died, I would be after a refund as I would lose all trust in them :)
 
Righto, seems mine wasnt a game issue, console started freezing in other games so took it back and got immediate replacement from shop, they even let me keep my HDD, was a lot less hassle than I expected from them TBH :)
If this one goes wrong I think I will demand a refund :rolleyes:
