You will save money if you go for the 250GB model, I quite like the 4gb's matt finish and you could get away with using a 16GB usb stick as a hard drive for a while but I'm finding that I'm downloading more and larger files and you will run out of space quick.

You'll need the hard-drive if you want to install games (to remove disc access noise), download games/demos, and lots of DLC. 4GB will suffice for game saves and smaller games/DLC packs, but it won't take long to fill.

You can use a USB stick for all of those, but I agree you will need the hard drive or at the very least a 16GB USB stick if you plan on downloading DLC or arcade games.

I couldn't play without a hard drive, simply the lack of noise from installing games to HDD makes it a requirement for me!

Plus all the DLC I have, even just on Rock Band alone would mean I need one.

A hard drive is a definite. There are some things you can't use the 16gb USB stick for.
But if you get into playing on the 360 even mildly, a hard drive is essential.

I,m using a 120gb drive in my 4gb model. I got the drive for £20 and i think the Matt black is a lot nicer than the shiny 250gb black. There also seems to be better deals with the 4gb. Mine came with 2 games which i sold for £35 so my console and 120gb cost £135...

Where do you get that from? the USB stick can be used exactly the same way as a hard drive. I still believe it would be better for him to buy the 250GB model and save money but giving false information doesn't help him pick.

I would go for the 250gb model if your planning on going on xbox live as there is so much stuff to download, 4gb just wont last.

If you want to play demos, watch movies and download DLC you will need a hdd. I bought an Arcade way back and it only took me a month to have to go out and buy a drive!

Nope you dont need a big hard drive.

Really depends what you're gonna be doing. I dont see the point of downloading and keeping loads and loads of demos etc, and if I want to I just put in a 16GB USB.
