There wasn't a tv section so guess this will have to do as it is xbox related.

anyways got a new tv few weeks ago Samsung 32" etc etc.

so i started using the component cable and it looks way better etc, i put it on 1080p or i can't remember all was working fine till the other day the screen is just black now?

the tv says mode not supported? but i haven't changed anything at all. one day its fine the next its not, av bought another component cable n that hasn't worked, tried AV that dont work.

hell av even tried it on a different tv with the scart cable n that doesn't work still comes up black? av been reading that it may be in the wrong resolution or something, but how do i change the res on the xbox if i can't see anything on the screen? lol

From MS support site...

To reset the display settings of the Xbox 360 console to the default settings, follow these steps:

1. Remove any discs from the disc tray.
2. Turn the console off.
3. Turn the console on.

Note If you are using an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, turn the console on by using the Xbox Guide button on the controller.

Note Make sure that you use the player 1 controller when you do this. The player 1 controller is the controller where the upper-left quadrant light is on.

4. As the console starts, press and hold the Y button, and then pull the right trigger at the same time. This causes the Xbox Dashboard to reset the display settings to the default settings and then automatically restarts the console. So it's OK when the Xbox 360 console restarts.

It sounds to me like the GPU has died, the exact same thing happened to mine it's a pretty common fault alongside RROD.

Do you still get sound output? if so then yeah it's dead. :o

Bit of a jump?

If the TV is reporting mode not supported, the Xbox is still outputting video, the TV just doesn't like it. Chances are it's the video mode on the 360 causing the problem for whatever reason.

av...

this sadyl isn't working for me, nothing seems to be happening and av held the buttons in for a good few minutes.

i dont get any sound just mode not supported.

I dont have a VGA or HDMI cable, and yes the comp cable came with the console.

is any1 able to tell me how you get to the screen res screen on the controller? ie - ok al be blind n not be able to see it but still can press the buttons to get to it, and put it on the lowest setting ?

a really dont wanna have to buy another bloody xbox, a got this oen when it came out so past the warranty no doubt.

Have you tried plugging it into a different TV?

Also isn't there a little switch on the Component cable (that end that plugs into the 360) that says "HDTV Mode" and "TV Mode"? something similar to that anyway.

Make sure that is in the correct position :)

Put it in HDTV Mode if it isn't already in that.

ok i did the resolution reset n i gott the xbox to reset but it didn't fix the problem still.

yeah i;ve tried it on a diff tv before. and yeah av tried the switch in both positions with evey possible combination of wiring setup as well.

the tv supports 720p so need it on that essentially. a onyl just bought the tv like a month a go, n like i say it was working fine a few days ago, tis doing me head in now, really wanna play soul calibre 4 2moro!! @ MS

So what exactly is it doing when you turn it on?

TV just says it can't find a signal or what?

I know you said you've tried other tv's, but does it work on those tv's?

If not... it's clearly shagged :(

If it does... then... well it only gets more confusing as to why the Sammy doesn't like your Xbox.

I guess you've already done this... but have you tried scart?

I just had a quick go on my 360 and to adjust the display settings blind these are the steps (although mines hooked up over VGA it should be the same)

Take any disks out so it loads to the dashboard, then it's the following buttons presses:

press right 3 times to get to the system tab
press A to select console settings
Press A again to go into display options
Press A again to select screen resolution
Press up 7 times to be sure its on 640x480
press A to select and wait literally a couple of seconds for it to adjust
Press up (moves to 'keep these settings' option)
Press A to select

these last couple of actions need to be done fairly quickly else it automatically reverts to the current display settings.

Hope it helps, I broke mine by fiddling with the settings!
