Im not sure if this belongs here so please move if it doesnt. Both both my sons have 360's (xbox 1 and xbox 2) both are wired to the router. Until recently eveything was working fine - no complaints from them about joining servers. One of the 360s was showing as strict ( not sure about the other one at that time as i had no complaints about it)

To fix it i forwarded ports for xbox1 and that eventually changed from strict to moderate.

My other son started to complain about his being on strict - i set xbox2 a fixed IP and set that in DMZ. This fixed his problem and changed it from strict to moderate.

Great but somehow the first xbox1 had now change from Moderate to Open - well thats even better for him so i was happy.

Today tho' xbox1 had reverted back to Moderate and xbox2 to Strict.........why ? To fix this i went back into the router, re-saved the settings that i had previously put in and restarted the router and both the xbox's - this set xbox1 to open and xbox2 to moderate.

I have a wireless PEAK router, its pretty old but is there anything i could try (other than buy a new router) to keep the NAT settings stable ?

Moderate simply means the internal port is different from the external one, open means they're the same. Both mean it's working.

Make sure you've assigned them both a static ip (DHCP lease can mess them up) and turn on upnp, it's the only way to have more than 1 xbox happy behind a single router, and it should simply work.

This may be very simple but tbh im not even going to pretend to understand fully what you said and suggested....................

Moderate simply means the internal port is different from the external one, open means they're the same. Both mean it's working.

How do i make both ports the same - does this lead onto what you said below ?

Make sure you've assigned them both a static ip

This i do understand and can do

.... and turn on upnp, it's the only way to have more than 1 xbox happy behind a single router, and it should simply work.

Now it gets a bit fuzzy, upnp is already enabled and from what can see always has been as it is something i have never touched. So if i cancel the port forward for xbox1 and set it static IP along with removing xbox2 (already has static IP)from DMZ should they work ok ?
