They are about the same amount of money.. so what would give best graphics... Ive got a fairly decent spec pc, but dont know whether to get the 360 or gfx card....

Im not too worried about live, marketplace.. etc.. just gamin!!!

The 8800gtx would be far far beyond it performance wise, thus allowing you to play games at higher quality settings/resolutions.

:edit: As said below, I would definitely go for a 360 though.

I'd go for the 360, but it depends where most of the games you want, are based, pc, 360 or both?

Compatability wise, i'd go with a 360 just cause you know it'll play everything made for it, no more hardware worries!

The 8800 is just a graphics card on its own, do you:

A) Have the rest of the machine to go with it.
B) Have a decent enough screen to appreciate its power in games @ 1920x1200.

The xbox360 is an all in 1 package. What you see is what you get, the games don't need installing, you won't need to update drivers, just pop the disc in and play.

Only real advantage I see to having the 8800 is that it goes in your PC and PC's use keyboards and mice :p

I have my pc hooked up to my 720p projector..so get an image about 92" for gaming..

Even when games develop beyond the capability of the 800gtx (i.e., crysis!!).. im sure they will still look better than the 360...

Keyboards and mince are far superior for FPS games.. and you can buy 360 style controllers...

Purely based of graphic power.. the xbox360 will never outperform the 8800gtx..???

gfx do not make a good game. Doesn't matter what format we're talking about.

EDIT: personally i prefer to just whack a disc and play - be that in a massive chair or bed. Around two years ago i used to be a hardcore pc gamer too. However, i got sick of endless updates/patches/intsalling/uninstalling/tweaking blah blah. However, some people like to faff about with all stuff like that. I spend more time gaming now definately and like how everything about the 360 seems streamlined with live.

Ditto.
I haven't bothered with PC games since I bought an Xbox 360 in Sept 06.
To the OP: I was recently in a similar dilemma to you, but I opted for a PS3 rather than a major PC upgrade.
I'd rather both my consoles than a PC when it comes to gaming nowadays.

I have a PC and Xbox 360 and I have to say that I hardly use my 360, I'm not sure why but I enjoy gaming on my PC a lot more, could be my history as I grew up with PC gaming from the early 90's in DOS mainly with the C&C and Bullfrog series. I own The Orange Box for PC and I can only think the 360 version wouldn't be as good because TF2 doesn't support as many players, doesn't support server mods, doesn't support custom maps etc. Plus I have to pay to actually play it online in the first place. Maybe I just haven't found the right game for my 360 yet, on the other hand I have a Wii and I enjoy playing that because it's nothing like playing on the 360 or PC.

GFX upgrade. Most of the decent stuff for the 360 is out for the PC. Ive just tried the COD4 PC demo and its a lot better than COD4 on the 360. The 360 is a brilliant machine, but for online gaming it no match to teamspeak and a keyboard and mouse.

I was an avid PC gamer, and instead of buying a PC upgrade I bought a 360, and have owned it since December last year, and now ive just splashed out on a new PC, the 360 hasnt really been used since.

I can tell you now, Post this in the PC gaming forum, and you'll get everyone telling you to get a 8800GTX.

So considering you've posted it here, and have a lot of responses saying 8800GTX, and you seem to be leaning that way yourself. I'd go with it.

Honestly, I can't believe you'd even consider spending that much money on a graphics card!!! Buy a 360, hook it up to your projector and enjoy it!

I'd say go for the 360 and enjoy the variety of games on offer on both platforms. I have both but buy 360 only titles (such as Mass Effect etc) so I don't miss out. I like driving games, so Forza 2 is a blast on the 360, while I do the serious racing on the PC with Race 07 and a G25.

I'd recommend the 8800GT to save some money... which could be used to upgrade that CPU, as it will hold an 8800 series card back!

Otherwise, it's a pretty tough decision.... I bought my PS3 back in April, rather than buy an 8800GTX.

Since then though, the 8800GTX can now be had from OCUK for £240 or so, or better value for money would be the 8800GT, nearly the same performance, for less money, and require less juice from the power supply too!

Also, since March, a carp load of top class PC games are out.
As has been mentioned above, a lot of the XBOX games come out for the PC too, and are in most cases (IMO) better, due to better graphics and control methods (and before I get moaned at about Mouse and Keyboard not being better, you can also plug an XBOX360 controller straight into a PC and use that)

As for social aspects, if you have a HDTV, you can plug your PC into that for gaming if you like ,and choose between 720p and 1080p. If your TV only did 720p the 8800GT would even be overkill!

Consoles do have a lot going for them too though.
The simplicity, no driver faffing, etc... but the games also cost considerably more. At least £10 more generally, if more more, that all adds up, towards the cost of your new card.

COD4, GOW, Bioshock and so on are better on the PC.

The cost of the 8800GT is well worth it.

As I said, I also chose to get a PS3.
My personal reasons for choosing one over the XBOX360 were mainly because, as I said, most of the top games that I'd want to play, that are XBOX360 "exclusives" generally make their way to the PC, even if later rather than sooner, whereas PS3 exclusives stay on the PS3, plus if gives you the chance to easily get into HD movies, with it's in built movie player, and I have to admit, the reliability problems of the XBOX360 were also on my mind. (and again, before I get my head bitten off, the PS3 can fail too, but I think you'll find there's no comparison between that, and XBOX failures)

So there we go, I'm not telling you what to do, just saying what I did. Worked out great for me. There have been some brilliant games on the PS3, and of late some brilliant games on the PC, more than I can get through at the moment, and the 8800GT does them all proud... though of course, Crysis wasn't silky smooth at high details, but, neither would it be on the GTX.

Hope some of this info helps you make a decision.

V1N.

A 360 exclusive stays on the 360 just as much as a PS3 exclusive stays on the PS3, otherwise they are not exclusive. If most 360 games come out on PC then they are normally months if not years later, as a gamer do you really want to wait that long, especially when the PC gaming market is probably at an all time low, if it was so great then they would not need 360 games months later :)

360 has as much exclusive franchises that will never be on PC as the PS3 does so no idea where this myth comes from that the PS3 has more exclusive games, it does not in the slightest.

lol.

PS3 exclusives are just that.

XBOX360 exclusives, like Halo and Gears of War come to the PC as well.
As I said, there's a delay, sure. If it's worth shelling out extra to buy a console to play the games earlier, then fine.

I simply stated what I did, and why.
There's nothing incorrect there.
To me, there is no point having a gaming PC AND an XBOX360, when the PS3 is there.
If I didn't have a gaming PC, I WOULD have an XBOX360, no doubt... but with so many games on the XBOX also being on the PC, it wasn't worth it, to me. And don't go spouting off a list of games that aren't on the PC, I was commenting on games that I want to play... just giving the OP my point of view, not dissing your beloved XBOX in any way.

Some 360 exclusives like Bioshock, Gears of War, Halo and so I have here for my PC. I doubt I'll see Ratchet and Clank, R:FOM etc out for the PC.

Anyway, I'm sure the OP realises this, as he's obviously gamed on the PC for a while, so I don't need to explain this to him. If you want to go on believing... ah, never mind, there's no point.
