Right my Xbox 360 just died on me and is displaying 3 red rings and refuses to even boot into the dashboard. I am 10 months into my 1 years warrenty, but the problem is I bought it from an online retailer. Do I have the right to demand that they replace it since its still under my 1 years warrenty?

I would prefer a brand new one since I don't really want a refurb from microsoft, but I have a funny feeling that this certain online retailer is going to mess me about saying its microsofts problem. If I am within my rights to demand a brand new replacement does anyone have any links that I can use to back up my arguement?

You're well within your rights to get the retailer to deal with it, but they have the option of replacing it or sending it off to Microsoft themselves

If they returned it to microsoft It would be quicker if I did it myself, thanks I will get in touch with them tommorow and see what they say.

Is it an online retailer who also have a shop? If it is you can take it to the shop and get it replaced :)

When you get it replaced you get a brand new one year warranty as well, only an MS warranty though. I presume you would still get the 2months left with the retailer :)

They don't have a store and I would like to mention it, but it will only get removed :o It is probably the biggest site in europe that deals in dvd's games etc.

Ah right, definetly better just to MS it, although they will have to do a diagnosis on the phone which takes 15mins

I can tell them exactly whats wrong the graphics chip is dead/dying since I am getting artifacts on the screen and now it even refuses to boot at all and just flashes the 3 red lights which indicates a hardware failure. Thanks for all the help, I have emailed them from xbox.com to see what they will say, I can't be bothered dealing with an indian call centre since it seems to be the popular thing these days :/

It doesn't matter how smart you are, they are phone monkeys and still make you do it.

4 days return 3 times now through MS the returns are good but i received a replacement that did not work just unfortunate i suppose.

I have received 2 fresh and the refurb is one what did not work i got a March 2006 console fresh still had sticker on CD tray just the other day. :)

I just cut them off as they begin and tell them I used the microsoft support page and went through everything already. That shuts them up.

Sorry to hear about the failure, the thing I love about the 360 is it doesn't conform to standard. People say if an electrical item is gonna fail normally it fails not long after initial use. Not the 360 it will die at any random russian roulette moment. Hunk of junk.

I'd love to know the real returns rate, industry standard my arse.

I think your quickest route is microsoft, if you want a new one send it back to the store but it may take a month. The new ones are dieing just as readily as the old ones anyway.

That was still a refurb, ive recieved a Dec 05 and Oct 05 console with all the stickers like new. It looked like a brand new one but they were refurbs.

Halo2 and GoW just got significantly easier for me. ;)

Umm, bad luck mate, I know how it feels.

tough luck I tried it again this morning and it worked

still going to get them to repair/replace it though since its bound to happen again soon.

Thanks for all the help I will get on to it after the weekend, but one last question do they arrange for a courier to come fetch it or do I send it back myself? Also if I sent it back while it was 'working' would they still repair/replace it?

NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Yeah, I'd send it off. If it is in any way intermitant then I would get it replaced before the warantee expires. I think the current policy is you pay for postage but I'm not sure, I made the smart choice of getting it from a high street retailer.

i thought ms arranged to get it picked up FOC?

You phone Ms up and they send you a email with a returns label. You print the label off and attach it to a box with your 360 in.

You phone up UPS quote the reference number and they will pick it up. Phone early and they will pick it up that day.

They then email you to say they recieved it in milton keynes and email you again to say when the new one was dispatched.

You pay for nothing.

Or if its like mine you phone up they say they are going to send labels but dont UPS come pick it up and it gets sent free of charge though. :)

Luckily they take the Serial number otherwise i doubt id be getting one back. :)
