Quick question for you chaps, i bought my 360 online from a well known high street electrical store that sounds like it should be up with the stars:D, about a fortnight ago it died like so many others, i contacted this store as it was still under warranty and the chap said that if i brought it in they would send it off for repair, i thought i would be aswell doing that myself through MS as i knew from others that they arrange to pick it up (yes im a lazy git). What i want to know is should the store have actually replaced it with a new one and if so i take it i would have got a new 1 years warranty with that? im kinda worried now that i have been shafted by them.

Answers on a postcard please:D

Should have got a brand new one....you now stuffed when it comes to further faults, as they'll just repair that one. However you might get a refurb/tested 360 back.

You still have 1 year guarantee,

I sent my 360 back to Gameplay on Friday after it died. They are replacing with a brand new one as I didn't want a refurb from MS. The only problem being that I had to return the whole kit including the HDD. Therefore I bought a new HDD and sent that back. When the new kit arrives I will sell the HDD and put my old one back in, therefore loosing no save game data.

I am not sure of the laws or if its down to individual store policies, but I would try and get them to replace with a brand new one too.

Gameplay had to advise me that MS are only honoring the warranty from day one of the original sale and that I will not get a new 12 month warranty, even though it will be a new 360! I thought this sounded somewhat dodgy but after asking around it appears MS are allowed to do this. I will therefore be buying the extended 2 year warranty that comes with 360 for £55.

Here is my thread with all this:http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17618782

I believe you get 28 days for a refund or exchange in the store after that they can repair or replace. Could be wrong though and it might just be that thats standard practice with retailers rather than the law.

seems like i'm getting some mixed response, i have heard from some folk that they have had theirs replaced a few month after buying it, when i phoned the store up the guy said they would replace it if it was under 30 days since purchase, anything after that and it would be sent for repair but this just seems to clash with other stories, suppose its all down to where you got it from but i feel that as a customer they should be giving me a brand new one, no gaurentee's thats going to last either but it would probably be a new build console and hopefully the original fault wouldn't occur.

how do i buy this extended warranty?
There would have been a warranty pack in the 360 box when you bought it. I haven't looked at mine in detail yet, but will do when my new replacement arrives hopefully in the next day or two. Hopefully you can sign up for it anytime in your the first 12 months of ownership. To me it would seem silly not to buy this, what with the failure rate of the 360's.

As for the problem being sorted; my mate recently bought himself a new replacement from Game as he didn't want to be without his 360 whilst MS warrantied his over the last bank holiday weekend and now that has started to go wrong :(

Yeah it says limited offer, but just give 360 support a call and you can pay for it over the phone.

With regards to the extended warrenty, maybe I'm cutting off my nose to spite my face but theres no way I would buy it. As soon as MS refuse to replace a bust console thats it, they've lost me as a customer. I'd sell up any games and take my business elsewhere (Wii / PS3)

I just think its a bit of a joke that they are raking in all this extra revenue (90%+ profit is the norm for extended warrenty) because their product appears to be more unreliable than the norm. Its crazy, they are making money off their consoles breaking

Im just about to bring mine back, bought it on friday and the dvd drive sometimes refuses to eject, not a major problem but it could get worse with time.

:(

Thing is, after the Warranty (1yr) expires you could still probably push it through under the sale of goods act wherein the object (360) is inherently faulty (obviously)

i had a read of the leaflet in the box, says it was a limited offer so dont know if you can still get it

I phoned them up about this, send it off anyway mate they will honour it. They did mine and send me a priority number to use as well.

What are Game like for returns? Mine has been locking up a lot recently so I'm thinking I might take it back see if I can get a replacement.

Will post when i get back :)

Just got back from game and they wouldn't replace it because they couldn't replicate the problem, Yeah i must say if the 360 s working perfectly im obviously gonna go down to get a replacement for no reason. Now ive to call their customer services and see if they will tell them to change it for me, so far though its impossible to get through to them.

Edit:

Caled customer services, i was told in game that they had to authorise a replacement, now theyre saying on the phone that they can't authorise anything without seeing it.

How are they going to have time to test it whilst the shop is open... unless they are going to use itas the demo console for the day?
