iv had the new slim for about a month now and only just started getting problems this week.

so i try to play Fallout 3 from the hard drive and get this error

it doesn't happen with just that game its most of them.

then i downloaded the Mafia 2 demo pressed play and got this error

after i restarted it im told that theres an update, i updated it and the xbox froze, restarted it again and get the same update even though its already installed.

does anyone know what this is or should i just send it back to be replaced ?

Yes send it back and get other one as replacement - look like this one seem to be faulty, I got same one that work fine without problems (I bought Xbox S 360 with 250GB) -- when I install and setup that went fine. some of unit are faulty some are working fine.

Send it back and get replacement and check if it work ok

I had exactly the same problem less than two weeks after getting my 360S. Went back to GAME and was forced to jump through hoops before they changed it. In the shop it would not display any of the issues i was experiencing. I was even made to wait while they installed MW2 (it had failed to install MW2 twice in a row at home) which took ages but did a full install. I know GAME were close to saying no, but i made the point clear i wasn't impressed.

ok so it started working fine again for a few days but now i get this

its the E68 error, means hard drive is screwed up. it will definitely be sent back now.

Is this uncommon for the S though?
I was talking about picking one up with someone i know but he said they don't seem going well from what he heard

It's just the hard drive not the console itself, once it's been out for a year you can judge the reliability (which is not to be confused with early component failure).

Indeed. This is clearly a HDD failure, and as everybody knows HDDs can fail completely out of the blue like that. I recently had a 1 month old 1tb drive fail on me for no apparent reason, it happens. I don't think this is a reflection on the overall reliability of the new console.
