- Rules

- Each game is a first to 2 rounds (best out of 3 rounds)
- You play all other competitors in a 'set' which is first to 3 wins (best out of 5 games)
- Each round is 99 seconds
- Stage selected must be random
- One point is gained for each game you win
- One bonus point is awarded to the winner of the set
- Everyone must choose and stick to 1 character only
- Top 4 players go into a playoff to determine the CHAMP
- Only forum members can join

LOSERS FINAL - 1 Set (= first to 2 wins)
Winner goes to GRAND FINALS, Loser goes OUT.

GRAND FINALS - (1 Set = first to 3 wins)
Player from Winners Final needs 1 Set to be crowned CHAMP.

I recommend Artheas' tourney playoff idea for the top 4, with 1st and 2nd in winners, and 3rd and 4th in losers. :p

Pros:
Something to play for right until the very end, if you're not 1st. 5th will want to edge into 4th, 3rd will want to edge into 2nd etc.
There will be a grand finals, the one match everyone will want to see that determines the champion.


Cons:
Those outside the top 4 only get to watch!
1st place isn't differentiated from 2nd; same for 3rd and 4th. Had an idea around this, but it's very stupid! Double elimination pretty much means you have 2 'lives' in a tourney. So instead of 1st and 2nd being in winners (2 lives) and 3rd and 4th being in losers (1 life), let 1st place have 4 lives, 2nd place have 3 lives, etc etc. Yes i know it's dumb. (if you have no idea what i'm talking about, have a read on this)

Would players be able to play each other more than once? The wiki entry for a swiss style tournament says 'One proviso is that the same players never oppose each other twice'. I don't know if that's one of the rules that defines a swiss style tournament, or if it's flexible, but if it's not, then i don't think we have enough people to do it that way. If you can play the same player more than once, then i like the idea. It'd make a nice change.

i like having a mini playoffs for top 4. just in the nba, the league is just earning places to get into the playoffs. but in this case only to get a upset by me :p

i think the playoff games should be a first to 10 or a larger number of games than 3, to make it more exciting

It's like the league where everyone plays each other once (unless double elimination is used), but it's a lot more exciting and each match matters more as it's in a tournament standard.

Most SF tournaments have a pools stage where the top 2 players from a round robin bracket of 6 players, enters a 32 man tournament, number adjusted for size obviously.

Sounds interesting, but this is strictly not a one game knockout style tourny.

It is more to give everyone the chance to have a longer session with each other. It has worked well in the previous 2 - the best player won the first league and the second best player won the second league, so its definately working.

The top 4 will go into a playoff this time round and that should make things interesting.
 
letsss get it onnn laddsss!! I prefer the format youve gone for this time Adz, and im also lovin Arts idea, but i think it would be better suited as a seperate title to the league.. like an FA cup type thing..

edit: just realized Adz has already said top 4 are having playoffs - sweet <3
