Hi all,

My mate has just recently bought an XBOX 360. He got it with the game king kong. I must say it has some quite stunning graphics and visuals.

My question is "How would the graphics of an X1900XT and an Xbox 360 compare?" Is the X1900XT going to produce the same sort of quality?

I currently using a FX5950 and as you can imagine I am a bit out of date. I am now wondering whether to upgrade to a X1900XT or to just go out and get a 360.

The Graphics on the 360 will get better with time, once the platform matures.
A X1900XT will age quicker, mainly due to DX10 just around the corner.

Bottom line is, do you prefer consoley type games or PC type games?

Why not get a X1800XT and a 360!

Raw power wise, the 1900xt is faster by about 90%. (216GFLOP/s vs 410GFLOP/s) The xenos GPU is about 27% faster than an x1800xt (216GFLOP/s vs 170GFLOP/s. Texturing wise, both the 1800xt and 1900xt are 25%(?) better than the xenos GPU.

However, even though the numbers seem that x1900xt is a lot faster this is not always the case. Look how much more processing power the x1900xt is compared to the x1800xt, yet, it is only about 25% faster overall. Also, because the xbox 360 is a closed environment, the devs can tinker with any resources on the system to get the maximum performance, something you can't do in the PC environment without the risk of it being incompatabile with other systems.

IIRC, the 4xAA on the xenos architecture is better than the x1900xt.

Going off a little off topic, but RSX seems like it could end up about the same speed as a 7900GT, so by all comparisons between the next gen consoles, the xenos gpu looks faster at this point.

So you want to base your upgrade decision on what will give you the best graphical quality? Erm, why?

Its quite simple.

Look at the current games on both platforms and those being released later on in the year?

Want to play upcoming PC games? Get a X1900XT.

Want to play games coming out for the 360? Get the XBOX.

Just base your decision on that before the PC/Console Fan boys come in here and start arguing and going wildly off topic.

Its not as good as the x1900 i dont think, i think its between that and the x1800, as its a bit better than the x1800, so id say its in the middle, have to agree about the visuals, King Kong looks great, i completed it the other week, some bits were stunning i thought, there was a bit where playing as Kong it went into a movie bit, but then i got control back, but i didnt realise at first as i thought it was still a movie bit, it looked that good, only realised it was back to me as he was just standing there lol. :D

Simple enough?

Do you want Console or PC gaming?

Does your mate play his 360 on a HDTV? Would be even better visuals if he does'nt already.

You buying a X1900 XT and putting it into your setup might just cause a problem with cpu limitations. Your cpu may be draw back.

Normal Tv you can use the advanced RGB scart (which im using), cracking picture quality, i didn't think it would be that good tbh as everyone ws saying you need a HDTV, but you don't really, or you can connect it up through the composite to scart cable that you get with it, which isn't as good as the proper RGB as its just composite.

HDTV can be connected by the component cable you get with it as well (Premium pack), or use DVI, VGA etc...

A 3500+ should be fine for the x1900, im using a 3500+ with an x1800 XT 512mb, and the performance is incredible, the x1900 is hardly way ahead of the x1800. :)

My xbox360 graphics can 't touch my x1900xt-x running the same games at 1920x1200 on my dell 2405....

But the xbox360 wins hands down for for just being able to just throw a game in it,,,grab the wirless pad and start playing..

I have the full tombraider legends game for the PC and xbox360..And it's the xbox360 one i like playing best..

But FPS are PC for sure..

I have not even looked at the Xbox 360s price because frankly I don't care, but I know its a hell of a lot cheaper then a top of the range pc, so I am sorry but from just the price difference of the two, I fail to see how the 360 can claim to be better.
A PC is also much much more then just a gaming system, its whatever you need or want it to be.
Consoles will never be better then pcs in my opinion, and its a simple as that.
Oh hang on lets think, the games for them consoles where and how are they made?
And playing an FPS on a console is a complete joke, anyone who does is a total newbie fool.

Come on people this is a little bit "playground" isn't it LOL.

Can't blame people for wanting to defend their own personal choices but this thread seems to have taken a very childish direction (as all XX v YY threads do)

I use my PC for PC type stuff that can't be done on a games console, and also for playing CS and various other FPS games.

I bought a 360 purely because I miss the simplicity and the more social side of owning a console.

you cant compare them as they are aimed at 2 completely different sectors of the market and the nature of each is completely different aswell.
its very unfair to compare from both sides imo.

I don't think anyone is being childish here, its simply there personal opinions, some people don't like other peoples opinions because its not what they want to hear.

My fault really I should have explained my first post a little better. I much prefer a PC to a gaming machine. (I had a PS2 just for PES Soccer, then it came out on the PC so I sold it lol)

All I really wanted to know is the ATI X1900XT as visually pleasing as the Xbox 360 is on a HDTV. It seems like by some of the replies that it is.

I am stuck with a FX5950 at the moment and it is far from visually pleasing in current games. So now I know that the PC is capable of similar graphics then I can now seriously consider an upgrade :)
