Hello - what alternatives are there to the official 360 wifi adapter?

I'm very reluctant to pay the £stupid that they try and charge for it. The price of the thing is hilarious.

How's everyone got their 360 hooked up to their wireless network?

I bought a Buffalo AirStation Turbo G High Power WLI-TX4-G54HP bridge for 49.99 including delivery. Works absolutely fine. Connects the 360 in the lounge to my wireless router upstairs. Has 4 ethernet ports so you can connect stuff like blu-ray players etc. as well if you wanted to.

The price may be "hilarious", but there is no denying it works, and works very well. The only other alternative is a bridge as Drukk has mentioned.

Yeah.. you'd hope so. The friggin' original Nintendo DS has WiFi built in.

The repurposing method sounds good. Perhaps Linksys WRT54GL router, Tomato firmware, in wireless client mode.

Benefits: will support WPA2 as a client, is a great router when it's not acting a client, costs £40something.

Just call MS, make a warranty claim for the wireless adapter (even if you dont have one).

Agree with the test and fixing steps they give you on the phone, after a few mins they will go away, come back and give you a code and tell your replacement will be with you in 5 working days. ;)

P.s your console will need to be in warranty.

There is a popular game shop you can buy one for £34.99 (though think maybe has gone up to £39.99 now) as a special offer providing you buy any other official xbox product (including games), only way I could justify getting one.

home plugs are great. I've used a pair of them with my sky router on one end, and a linksys WRT54G on the other end which is acting as a wired switch and a wireless extender :)
Was using just the WRT54G as a wireless bridge for the xbox at one point, before I got the home plugs

Just about any wireless access point that can be configured to run in client mode will do you. I'm using a plexus AP here, which I bought brand new for 17quid, and took seconds to set up.

I bought a cheap ethernet wireless bridge for £20 and it works perfectly, saved myself £30+!
Brand is Tenda.

I think that most shops do offers where if you buy them with a game you get them stupidly cheap.

They must make a lot of profit on them.
