Can I use an Xbox 360 with a moniter, if so how is it setup, what resolutions can it run at, so say if the moniter supports over 1280x720 then it can run in 720p or what? Because I really want GTA 4 on PC but know I will have to wait a long time so will fire up my 360 again to play it on that but can't stand going back to my crappy little TV from my reasonably sized moniter, so I was considering either a new TV, or a moniter upgrade (preferably moniter so I get the benefit on the PC and 360). What is the deal then, can I get a reasonble size moniter that will support 720p from the 360 or is it different? And if the moniter isn't in the same aspect ratio of 1280x720 or whatever will it stretch or go widescreen with the black bars or something. Sorry, I guess this has been answered before but it is late and I don't want to deal with searching. Thanks.

Yes

Superb!

what resolutions can it run at

A wide range of standard PC and HDTV resolutions (but not many 16:10 resolutions)

Any PC monitor will work

And if the moniter isn't in the same aspect ratio of 1280x720 or whatever will it stretch or go widescreen with the black bars or something

It stretches if the chosen resolution has a different aspect ratio to the monitor so pick a resolution that matches the aspect ratio of your screen and borders will be put in where necessary or the game will account for the aspect ratio.

No problem :)

Ok let me get this 100% certain. It can run in most 16:9 resolutions but not many 16:10? Then surely I can't get it to match the moniter's native resolution and it will be stretched and look weird. Correct me if I'm wrong but the majority of moniters are in 16:10, so unless there is a large 16:10 resolution it supports then it won't work without stretching. What is the best setup to go for, say if I got a 22" 1680x1050 moniter is there a 16:10 resolution I can run it at or a large resolution I can run it it so that it doesn't stretch but adds bars? I want to be 100% certain on this before I buy the moniter as I probably won't be upgrading my PC for a long time so want GTA 4 to work nicely to fill in the PC gaming I will miss out on until I upgrade so my PC will handle the bigger moniter. Thanks a lot for the answers.

What resolution do you run it at? And if possible could you get a pic of it running (if you have one already, don't go to the trouble of setting it up and taking one, unless you really have nothing to do lol). I would like to see what resolution it is at and compare the image. I was hoping for more info on the 1680x1050 area on a 22" as I don't want to go for a 24" as the resolution is too much and my computer will certainly struggle how it is now and would require loads to be spent when I come to upgrade. Thanks.

Yeah, I don't have an adapter for the PS3 anyway, plus I already have 2 computers hooked up to the display anyway. VGA and DVI are taken up.

It'll let me do 720p and 1080i as you said, 1080p wont work over component with this display. People say not many TV's will do 1080p over component.

This is just to tide me over until I get a proper HDTV. I got sick of playing this on SDTV. Even though it was 28" widescreen. I got sick of not being able to see the detail to spot the corners away in the distance.

As no one seems to be answering the OP's questions I'll do it again. On a 1680*1050 monitor (which I used to use) you will always get vertical stretching unless you have a rare 1680*1050 monitor that correctly does aspect ratio scaling (I don't know of any that do) rather than aspect ratio assuming you're feeding it a 4:3 signal and sticking bars on the sides >_<

Well can you recommend the best moniter for 360 at a good price (by that I mean best moniter size and what resolution it will run at, will it be stretched or 1:1 pixel mapping etc)? I've only got a 17" at the moment that I might buy the cable and try it on, I'm guessing form what I've seen on Amazon reviews that this will run fine in 1280x1024 4:3. Thanks Kreeeee.

To be honest a 19"-22" TFT is ideal even with the stretching. 1920*1200 monitors are too expensive just to put the black borders on and I played happily on a 1680*1050 monitor and my flatmates ASUS 19" widescreen 1440*900 monitor looks fantastic with the 360.

Hopefully MS will add some 16:10 resolutions in the next update.

The 360 will run perfectly at 1280*1024 and it will add the borders on games that are only coded for widescreen. Definitely try it on your screen for a while before you splash out more cash :)

Well I was seriously considering a 19" and keeping both moniters, using the 19" for gaming and the 17" for other stuff as it is a larger resolution. Then I could have my PC running on the 17" when I'm playing on the 19" with the Xbox. Only thing putting me off is the size, I will probably need to see one in real life, and also the fact the resolution is lower than the moniter I have now (but obviously a 19" will be widesceen and will be better quality than this 17"). Thanks for the help I guess when GTA 4 comes closer to release I will buy the cable and go to some shops to see the actual physical size of a 19".

The resolution won't be an issue for the 360 as it only outputs 1280*720 anyway. A 19" widescreen for ~£90 is a great choice if you're not split screening very often.

surely both the 17" and 19" will be the same res (1280x1024) assuming of course the 19" is not widescreen??

I've run my 360 on my 19" non widescreen tft for a while before and tbh it looks pretty damn good! :) the dash fills the screen nicely, and games just get small black bars at the top and bottom.

the only game where i've ever had any problem is with PGR3 but only cos that game has a very wierd native res

I'd say go for it, you will not be dissapointed :)
