So why do they support MP3?

because the market for legal mp3's and mp3 player is that large that it makes sense to do so. There arent many people with portable device's that play divx, and for everybody else you can virtually gaurentee that if they have divx videos, they are pirated.

pretty much everyone using MP3 is doing so illegally. Difference is MS lost that format battle and they know it, whereas they think they still have a chance with DRM WMV, hence why they wont push the boat out to support DivX, until they inevitably lose that battle aswell.

Loads of mainstream electronics manufacturers such as Phillips offer divx playback on their DVD players. Its just amatter of time. Until then I'll stick to XBMC :)

MS will add divx support if it PS3 offers it, of that I am sure.

at the end of the day imo if you are thinking of getting a ps3, buy a 360, then when the ps3 comes out if u still want 1, trade the 360 in

Or save up the relatively small amount of money it will cost and get one of those too!

In pc terms what is equivalent to a 360?

Apple G5 with 3 CPUs (the G5 would probably be faster at the same speed), souped-up ATI X1900-XTX (just like the Xbox was a souped-up GeForce 3).

Obviously it doesn't work exactly like that, but thats the closest you'll get.
