has anyone found that their picture with component is quite dark, how does the vga compare. i have a sagem hd45 screen and on component have to change the brightness and contrast settings quite a lot to even see the picture and then it looks a little washed out.

Some find component better than vga and visa versa, i personally find it much better on mine but others will say the other way, depends on ya tv i guess

yeah i have moved from my PC screen to a brand new Samsung LE32R74BDX and as such switched to component and yeah it is a lot darker, but i was just putting that down to settings on my TV.
Dunno if its darker or the dark is darker and the light is lighter, probably the way it should be lol
I dont use VGA on my screen as it is a hassle for the sound and its still hooked up to my PC screen so i can still use that.

component does lack the brightness and clarity of VGA but is better at colour reproduction, although I prefer VGA, get an optical lead if compatible with your setup, eliminates any sound worries.

I got the 26'' version and highly recommend you try VGA,, it makes so much difference you wont believe,,, alright you loose a bit of controll over your colour controll but everything becomes crystal clear and defined,, a bit like going from 600x400 to 1280x1024

Really??

I'll give it a go somepoint during the week, the sounds just a pain when using VGA on it cos it wont take phono's with the VGA i dont think

Ive got the 26" LE26R41B. Tried it with a Blaze VGA cable today and was frankly unimpressed. It looked as if everything was smoothed over compared to component. Component may have more jaggies but i prefer the vibrance and clarity on the menus etc. May be my VGA cable but goes to show how much it can vary for different people.

I've got the same TV as you mate, currently on component but thinking about giving VGA a whirl at some point.

What's your 360's output set to, 720p or 1080i? I can't really find any real difference between the two...

What game/games did you try with the vga??, I think this has a great deal to do with it,,Dont know why though??, The only game in my small collection I found that benefits from component over vga was Kameo,, probably because its a cartoony kind of game that looks great deep rich dark colours... I found comparing Burnout and tombraider on component/VGA actually looks the same as going from a mid range PC graphics settingsto a high end PC graphics settings in terms of clarity and detail and of course it still plays Smooth, its like a free upgrade :) , Tombraider did lose a bit of colour depth on VGA but Burnout looked spectacular all the colours are vibrant and outlines of all the models were crisp with defined edges almost like the resolution had been upped I was really surprised,, PGR and Oblivion on the other hand didnt really make much difference a little more defined and sharper outlines but thats it....Im using a Joytec VGA, dont know if that makes any difference,, Maybe down to preference, but I do find component very dark as well as undefined

Hmmm I have just got myself a Samsung 19" HD TV (didn't want to spend too much and my room isn't massive) and I must agree that compared to VGA everything is darker although I personally felt VGA looked a bit washed out.

I think I will have a fiddle later as this tv has all of the inputs you could want and supports all of the resolutions.

I will report back on my findings.

cheers guys think i may have to try a vga cable and make a comparison. as games like pgr3 and oblivion are virually pitch black unless i turn the contrast and brightnass a long way up. and even then still looks very dark.

Just a thought..have you got the auto adjust on?? I found that this always set my screen a little too dark..Let us know what you think of the VGA if you try it :)

yeah i got a 23" philips screen, 360 going in on the vga, looks bright, crisp, plenty colourful. Seen a 360 running on component on an amazing 40" samsung lcd, the dash screens are really vibrant but in games its as dark as hell! almost unplayable? you have to crank the brightness up and that washes out the colours. I think the pesky developers have maybe some of the blame resting with them for making such dark games?

Muchly prefer VGA, it makes the dungeons in Oblivion actually playable.

yeah thats a good point, i first noticed that on my pc version the dungeons were not completely dark and you could more or less see most things,, the 360 version was impossible to play, that was untill I changed to VGA,, I remember dropping a sword in a dungeon and never did find it with component,,lol

I think the darkness is a problem with the console not outputting the image right. Ive connected my pc to my hdtv via, component, vga and dvi and there wasnt a difference in brightness/contrast.

I've just posted a new thread in the monitors forum regarding moving to Official VGA cables, but haven't posted comparison pics (just my new VGA config pics). In my experience on the 2405FPW it has been Official VGA > Component >> 3rd party VGA. There isn't a lot between the Official VGA and component on this screen, although the VGA is slightly sharper.
