xbox controller with pc

You can get the wireless extender device as Doomedspeed said or pay £20 and get a wired one.

I got a wired one yesterday, works well. Means the little lad can play the Lego series easier.

If you have the wired one, it's just a case of plugging it into a USB slot and hey presto.

Also Xbox 360 controller, the original Xbox controller doesn't feature a USB plug :)

I would just like to point out that you cannot use a wireless Xbox 360 controller on PC with the "play and charge" kit thing, despite being USB, it does not have the necessary data paths in the cable. I do not know if there is an unofficial one which can, but that seemed to be what someone else here thought, otherwise no.

Which does indeed leave the wireless adapter, and I know OcUK used to sell them, so it is worth having a look. If not you could go on the popular auction/marketplace websites, as I am sure you will find a few new/used therein.

I also have to agree with schizo, the wired controller does work very well with PC, no additional hardware required. It is what I use at the moment, best PC gamepad at the price point.

yup, nice and long lead and not one problem, got mine from the members market for £12 :)

I'd go for a third party receiver from a certain auction site personally. I have had 2 of the official receivers so far and both of them have gone pop. It's a really common problem where one of the safety resistors on the receiver PCB pops and it no longer works. Sure you can solder the bridge but not sure if I would trust it being on while I am out of the house.
The 3rd party ones were about a fiver and work with the heatsets too, not had any problems with mine so far.

Lies! Xbox is defo good for jets, but m&kb is the way for helis.

And yeah, the wired pad is the way. Drivers install straight away and most games recognise it with a default button map as well. Excellent for 3rd person, driving, and platform games.

I'd go against using a third party receiver. I bought one and it just refused to work, the seller sent me another which also refused to work. I had followed all necessary installation steps to get the receiver working but they just wouldn't work.

For the price of the official wireless receiver you may as well just purchase a wired controller.
