Hi i have 2 questions regarding my Xbox360. First of all being what type of lead ( and how much ) would i need to connect my Xbox360 so i can view in the PC. Second regarding my ethernet cable as what i need to do with it to get internet working. Any help would be appreciated.

1) HDMI lead will plug your Xbox into a HD monitor - that's how mine's set up.

2) Maybe try plugging the ethernet lead from the back of your Xbox into your router? That's normally a good first step.

About a fiver if you go to the right places. I got mine from around the neck of a strangled hobo, so I couldn't tell you. As far as your router being downstairs goes, you need the Xbox wireless kit, because anything else wouldn't make Microsoft money.

That'll also work fine, but you should check if your main socket links your extensions in series (good) or if it's starred out to each extension (bad). Also, if it's an old phone line, check for guides on improving your line stats - things like unhooking the bell wire, etc. Otherwise you could really screw with your attenuation & margins, and your internet speed will suffer.

OP, what monitor do you have.
No point getting a HDMI lead if you dont have a HDMI socket in your monitor.
Mines connected to my PC monitor through VGA lead.

whichever speakers you plug in?
theres no 3.5mm _IN_ sadly as I discovered, but theres a little Y adapter you can use on the 2 wires that come out of the xbox to plug into the back of a sub if you have 2.1s on your PC.

You're asking aload of questions and not telling anyone what you have or anything, actually have a look what connections you have available and then come back here or even try looking for the cables on google, and then ask if unsure.

right.

1. wifi for 360 is expensive but worth it if you can afford like £50 or what ever they cost these days.

2. you can link it to a laptop via a cross-over network cable and share a laptops wifi connection to get on live! (or a desktop PC with a wifi adapter in place)

3. my preferred option would be getting a network extender adapters (i think they are called "Homeplug") that plug in to your power outlet switch (1 near router and 1 near 360) and this makes a wired connection over your powerlines.

altho i prefer the pair at £50 - Link: competitor

because you still get the functionality of the plug and they are 200mb so i have mine plugged in to a small switch which connects multiple devices :-)

if you would like further on any of these points

When it comes to audio, the audio will travel down the HDMI cable (if you decide to go down that route) or you can use the HDMI cable plus the original component cable supplied with the console and use the audio RCA (white and red plugs) to connect it to a different device (stereo) OR then buy a converter to change the 2 RCA plugs (white and red) in to a 3.5mm jack which you can then plug in to standard speakers.

any questions?? :) let me know if ive missed anything ;-)

or he could use my link to turn a cheap router into a wireless access point

nope. because that idea sucks :-) and he has also stated that he is not great with the technical stuff as he is 12. hence my solutions are more user friendly.

my solution is the cheapest in both short run (setup cost) and long run (electricity costs), being as hes 12 money may be tight.

also flashing a router isnt exactly the hardest thing in the world to do, you download the custom firmware, go into the router's home page and click on the upload button then click the flash button. my brother is 13 and last year he managed to create virtual servers and gaming servers for his games following guides, which there are plenty of. he even went to the extent of asking me install xp on his computer because vista never allowed him to do certain complicated stuff that he wanted to do.

sharing a pc's or a laptops connection isnt a decent solution in my opinion because, the laptop or pc needs to be on for his console to work, although some people do indeed do this, its a terrible setup which wastes a lot of electricity compared to other systems, because a full system has to be on just to share its internet connection. also if there is ever a problem with the pc or laptop (virus) or hardware fault then he is also out of luck.

homeplugs are a good suggestion and the only viable one next to an access point or a very very long ethernet cable.
