Right all,

Having my 360 for the past few months, i havent bothered to set up an xbox live account. But last night i thought id give it a go, anyways my 360 is downstairs in my living room and my wireless gateway is upstairs. I have the official MS wlan adaptor and in the settings i can see the gateway but cant connect to it, i dont know if its a distance problem or what.
I was told by someone that i need a router that supports upnp or something.

Just some more info as to how my network is setup. I have a pipex 2mb adsl connection which is connected into an Asus router, its a one port jobbie and nothing too fancy...does the job admirably...model is AAM6000EV so its kinda old. Anyways thats connected into my 5 port switch which my laptop is connected into. Now i have a US Robotics wireless gateway which is connected into the 5 port switch and my wireless card on my laptop can connect to my wireless connection no probs. The only prob im having is getting my 360 to connect to my wireless gateway...like i said earlier someone told me to get a router which supports upnp. Now i dont mind getting an all in one unit, as long as my 360 can connect to it and also my usr wireless laptop card can connect to it as well. I had some issues with my wireless card dropping the connection so ended up getting a USR gateway etc.

Hmmm sorry for going on but can anyone suggest what i can do to get it up and running, i might try bringing the gateway downstairs closer to the 360 but ive been told that may not work.

Cheers for any help or advice peeps :)

Would something like this do the job you reckon??

Linksys WAG354G 4-Port Wireless-G Broadband Router (NW-044-LS)
£48 isnt too bad a price and means i can get shot of my usr gateway and just use this for my network, also replace my old but gold Asus router :).

Hmmmm after doing some research on that particular router, doesnt look like its a good one...too many people having probs with it...:(...oh well it looked kinda nice lol.

Come on someone must be able to help here or at least give some recommendations at least...pffft :p

I use Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router/4-Port Switch which is upstairs, 360 is downstairs and have no issues at all.

Does your router have a firewall, if so add the 360's ip addy to it.

As this is an old router it may well be that it cannot work with a 360.

Nah no firewall although i have a hardware based firewall but i dont use it, havent set it up. could be my router but i dont think that would be a problem as the 360 is wireless and im trying to connect through my wireless gateway ;).
