Bit of a rant but Xbox Live subs are taken in advance are they not? So my payment today will last until 20th(ish) of August?

Because I'm having real trouble figuring out why Microsoft have just charged me £4.99 for a subscription when I added a 12 month live gold card in June! I added the card a few days after my June payment and now have not only been charged the £4.99 for subscription but my 12 month card allegedly runs out in a years time, surely with today's payment it should run out in 13 months!?

To further my annoyance the only reason I am paying by card is that I took them up on their £1 for a month's sub and obviously missed the smallprint where it told me I would automatically be charged £4.99 after that.

Arggghhh!!!

They got me with that too. Phoned up and cancelled though - but hate that they removed the option to be able to cancel it online. Stupid MS.

Wouldn't changing your sub cancel the existing 12 month subscription in favour of the new one?
I put on the 12 month sub after I'd signed up with anything else, I put my payment details on in March and then the 12 month card in June.

At least that's the way I've figured it, I have emailed them now for an explanation/refund so will see what they say.

Strange, I used 3 months pre paid card and received this email.

At the end of 3 months, your membership will automatically downgrade to a Silver Membership, unless you use another prepaid card or change your membership renewal options. Pricing details can be viewed in the Account Management area of your gamer profile. For information about changing or canceling your membership and your membership refund policy, go to www.xbox.com/live/accounts.

So it downgrades to silver membership rather than renew itself.

What really annoyed me with the xbox live account... moved house, wanted to cancel my gold membership for a few months but it's impossible to disable the auto renew without calling them.

Calling them was too much hassle so ended up changing my card details exp date so the payment wouldnt go through.

I pointed out in a thread before that I did that when my first year of credit card subscription ended. I wasn't going to be using my Xbox for a couple of months and had a couple of one month cards anyway. So my account was downgraded to Silver, however because they were still trying to charge my card, which now had expired or had the wrong details, they barred me from Xbox Live.

I had to phone them up to unbar me and allow me to put in the codes for the month cards that I had.

This was quite a few years ago now, so they may have changed procedures.

Is there any sure fire way to go from them charging you £4.99 a month to just using pre-paid cards again? preferably without having to phone or email them.

Bah, I better not have to ring them, I can imagine that being a pain in the rear.

Nah it's less than 5 minutes on the phone to them (after you are waiting on hold).

I know it sucks that you cant do it from the dash or online but other than the hassle of calling them it's pretty straight forward.
