Xbox live vs Playstation Network

Never really had a problem, it regularly maxes out my 40mb connection.

My PS3 is wired though I try not to use Wi-fi.

Mines wired to a 40mb connection and couldn't max out if it tried, judging from everyone else's experiences, your psn fanboyism makes you BS

I have both and am no fanboy of either but my PS3 can get impressive speeds wired in. Wireless not so much. The only difference between the 2 services in my experience is Party Chat. Maybe Live wins out on a less decent internet connection?

I find psn very sluggish when in-game and I want to chat or invite players. not sure what its like on xbox live as Ive never used it.

I hope this is improved on the ps4

Comparing the existing PSN to Xbox Live is a bit unfair when one is/was free and the other one has charged from day one.

I expect the new PSN+ service will be much improved especially since they will have the Gaikai servers which may be used alongside the existing infrastructure.

Xbox Live is better.

I'd assume it will still be the case next gen, but reckon PSN will be vastly improved.
I disagree, I used to think this but over the last year XBL has turned to dog turd, the UI is slow, its ad ridden and its super hard to find stuff even if your lookinf for it! (lets not even start on the stuff your not looking for)

The PSN service has improved a lot, they cleaned up the UI greatly, search is so much better as is the panelling and the amount of stuff on PS+ is ridiculous (not just games, but themes, vita stuff etc)

Tbh the ads dont bother me. It is 1-2 tiles per page, the rest are relevent to the games\tv\music tab that you are looking at.

And I do not understand how people cannot find things on Xbox Live, it really is simple.

The only benefit of PSN over Xbox Live is the free games, but thats not really what the OP is about. Everything else, XBox Live is better.

All my opinion of course :)

PSN is balls slow for me. I have 120Mb with VM and connected Wireless to the PS3 and the connection test was 6Mb... where did the other 114Mb get lost? My hub is only 2m away from the PS3 and the connection strength is 90-100%.

So I connected via Ethernet and my speed is now 26Mb, where is the other 94Mb?

It honestly took me over an hour to download and connect to PS Home to get the free PS+ month from e3. PS Home is 50Mb!. And even after that I was getting disconnected and it lagged.

I'm curious what everyone else's net speed is and what speed do you get on the PS3.

XBL this generation has been vastly superior bar the deals offered on PS+
I'd agree with that, and MS seem to be doing something about that by offering 2 free games per month to Xbox Live Gold customers. Maybe a little too late, but it's a step in the right direction.

Live and the Xbox dashboard is much much slicker than PSN. The whole interface, and integration is far far better with Live. PSN and the PS3 dashboard feel 'half done' by comparison.

Download speeds are also much better on Xbox Live vs PSN.

However, PSN really excels with what you get for your money. Live just gives you multiplayer access for the most part, everything else is just fluff. PSN on the other hand you get an absolute ton of free games, and good discounts.

The PS4 dashboard and PSN integration looks to have heavily borrowed from the Xbox/Win8 'tiles' look, and TBH that is a good thing, as it works very well.

XO UI will be - it has more resources targetted at the UI, cant see why it wouldnt be faster with 3Gb RAM pointed at it while the PS4 UI seems to have less (1.5Gb?). One will be Buttery the other will be 'I cant believe its not Buttery' :p

Isn't the xbox ui running a lot more stuff and using inferior ram?

Perhaps but if its all resident in memory the difference in RAM speed wont be noticeable. I assume its resident considering they are throwing 3Gb at it...

I wouldn't call it inferior (regards to the OS), with 8GB of 2133 MHz DDR3 it's faster than what is in most peoples PC's. Yeah its not got the bandwidth of the super fast GDDR5 in the PS4, but you aren't going to notice that on the Dashboard.

One thing to consider.

Both the 360 and PS3 predominantly used peer to peer for multiplayer gaming. There was the odd exception on both sides.

MS have said all multiplayer games will have local dedicated servers all powered by their huge Azure cloud infrastructure.

Sony haven't said anything other than things will continue as they did before.
