Now the problem is I already allowed it to do that to NFS Undercover and it went and deleted my save data, now I want to play GTA IV online but I am worried once the update for that game has been done it will again delete my save data for this game too. Oh great that is just lovely, that one update and all my games saved data has vanished. What kind of crap is this? Just to use xbox live you have to be prepared to lose all your saved data?Tried finding my saved data from the local hard drive, there's nothing in there for any game anymore. Is this supposed to be normal? Let's say I don't play on live for another a few months and they come out with an update, now if I wanted to join live again am I going to go through this same scenario again?

It shouldn't delete your save game. It should just update the game on the HDD. Never had a problem with a game update deleting my saves.

Well, I have... and a 360 that kept asking for game updates all the bloody time...

The problem - dodgy HDD... which has this nice side effect of ruining save games, and also needs to keep re-downloading game patches.

But other then that 1 instance, nope, I've never had a save game deleted after an update myself..

Neither have I. And i've never heard of anybody else having that problem either:confused:

Completely depends on the patch, game and developer in question. Sometimes they'll explicitly announce that the patch may affect saved game data, altho this normally only happens to PC games. May just be that the patch for Need For Speed does render itself incompatible with previous version saved games :)

On the plus side, it's very rare that this happens, so you should be okay to patch GTA4 :)

Believe me - Xbox Live was doing you a favour by deleting your NFS Undercover save. Man that game is total <censored>.

it could be that the patch was to fix a problem with save games causing problems, hence the only way to avoid the problem was to delete the saved game.....

I would checkout the notes for that patches from developers/community forum. Because xbox's are a standard platform the problem should be replicated with other users. If not it could be your xbox/hdd

Actually the big update that was released for the original crackdown (keys to city) deleted my save, I was ****** off to say the least as I had collected almost all over the agility orbs

It doesn't stop me from updating any of my other games though lol just get it done man!! :D

Well I see I'm in the minority, let me add in some details. When live wanted to update my system after it had done so it was blabbing something about rendering my previous save useless, but it did not say it would mess up all my save files. So not only did it delete NFS, it deleted my Forza 3, GTA IV, Mass Effect 2, Midnight Club La and the Godfather 2 saves. When I tried searching for them in the local hard drive through the ingame method of 'loading' it said for all of the games, 'there is no save file'.

God only knows what you did then, because I've never heard of any system update affecting such a wide range of game saves, and if it had, we would have heard about it.

You certainly seem to have had some bad luck. I've never had this problem but now I'm paranoid incase it happens! Might have to stick all my save games on a data stick or memory card in the future!
