Hey guys,

Just looking for some help...

Got the 360 yesterday, and looking to hoook it upto xbox live now, thing is im on Tiscali broadband, but the modem that Tiscali provided me with is like a abox with a USB lead on it, that slides into the pc...so how on Earth do I hook this upto the xbox? Can I put it into one of the USB sockets?

My internet set up is like this...

Phone line socket --> Spliter (One small ethernet socket, one phone line) --> The small ethernet cable plugs into one end --> Into the tiscali modem --> USB to the pc..

So how shall I go about this?

thanks guys

you can hook the 360 upto your pc via the lan port on the back of it

so it goes

xbox 360 > PC > uses usb modem > internet/xbox live

yeah, the network port on the back of your pc
and yes you can use both on the same connection, i connect to live the same way

that's how connected my original xbox to live, before i got a router.

plug your 360 into your pc's network port and your modem into usb as usual.

you may need to set up internet connection sharing, but i'm not 100% sure.

then make sure your other half/wife/mate doesn't switch off your PC in the middle of a race on PGR3 as you're xbox will rely on your PC for it's connection to the net.

Easy

1) Use the network cable you got with your 360 to connect the 360 to the back of the computer (a long grey cable that looks like a large telephone plug at each end)

2) On the PC go Start -> control panel -> network connections

3) Find the one labelled internet connection and right click on it and go to properties

4) Go to the advanced tab and there will be a bit labelled internet connection sharing. You should have 2 check boxes, you want to enable both of them. If you have never used sharing before it will probably give you some trollop about the dangers of connection sharing etc, just hit OK and it will let you past.

5) Select apply and Ok and then it may hang for a while while your settings are updated

6) The connection should now be laballed as shared in your network connections window

7) Turn on 360 and it should connect to the internet

8) 360 should connect to live and you shoudl be away

Remember! You must have your PC on and be connected to the internet for your 360 to connect to live.

Hey guys, done all of that...I think...but when I run the xbox connection test..it keeps failing the IP address one....

Which internet connection am I clicking the properties for...my tiscali one?

Yes, your tiscali internet connection.

You should have 2 connections on your window (maybe more). The one that is just labelled Local Area Network (this is the connection between the PC and the 360) should have no firewall running on it. Go into the properties then to the advanced tab again and select your firewall setting and make sure they are disabled. Only do it for you LAN though, not your internet connection.

When I go there...There are three tick boxes...Im ticking them all...but the xbox isnt connecting...

it says something may not take effect until next time you dial...So im disconnecting, but when I reconnect, the boxes are unticked again...so the circle begins...

Hmmm wierd, it shouldnt be disabling itself. All i can think of is try disabling the firewall on the LAN if it isnt already disabled (explained a few posts up), other than that youll get better answers in the networking section, might be worth trying to get it moved over there.

Well ive got it to stop disabling itself...

does the LAN icon, in the advanced tab need to be on shared too?

As at the moment, it is saying my LAN has limited or no connection

I have just took the firewall off it too...to no avail

Yeah it will, tehres a few people on here doing it, adn me and my dad used to run 2 PCs through a USB modem using ICS.

It should be a simple case of........

Xbox -> PC (disable firewall between units in network connections window)

PC -> Internet (enable internet connection sharing, enable firewall in network connectiosn window)

How do I disable yhe firewall between the units? That between the xbox and laptop?

In your network connectiosn window you shoudl ahev a connection labelled as Local Area Network. If you have your 360 switched off then it will have a red cross through it indicating the connection is dead. Select propertiees on this connection and under advanced you will have an option for a firewall, disabled the firewall and select OK. It may hang while your settigns are updated.

THIS is the walkthrough made by microsoft on how to set it up.
