It might only be two months, unless you haven't signed up for live on your current gamer profile yet, since on second thought it might only be valid for three accounts, not four.
If you haven't signed up for live yet though, then you'll definitely get at least three free months.
It only takes a couple of minutes to sign up, then you just select silver account, and it should tell you you're eligible for a free months gold.
No point paying for live just yet if things are a bit tight, might as well use up all your free gold first.
