My Xbox has switched to a strict NAT after a year or so of being Open on the same router. Not sure what the problem is, any ideas to fix it as I basically can't play anybody online :(

Ok, this is a bit of a random long shot but... hard reboot your router.

Happens to mine quite often. To fix it, I just switch everything off. Fire the router back up, then fire the Xbox back up. Don't know why, but seems to fix it.

Its not the bt homehub is it? Mine did exactly the same thing with mw 2. I managed to switch it back but i fiddled with so many things i have no idea how. Google xbox 360 strict nat and you will see a lot of people with this problem, and a fair few solutions.

is it not to do with the port forwarding to specific ip addresses on the network? because the router randomly assigns a differant ip to each device within the designated range, set up a reserved ip address and manually connect with the xbox to it, then forward the ports to that address or stick that address in the dmz

Yeah clocked this after I posted. My router had randomly reassigned the port forwarding for Xbox to my Netbook.

Reassigned and it's all gravy again.

This may sound stupid but when forwarding ports, do you forward the ports to your 360 Ip address?

Only reason I ask is if you have DHCP set up on your 360 won't you be constantly changing what IP address it forwards too?

No my router assigns each connected object a specific ID which is valid for 30 days or something until it lapses.

For some bizarre reason though it had swapped the Xbox port forwarding to the Netbook.

As long as the router is always left on, the Xbox will always receive the same IP via DHCP really...

Mine did same other night, been set to open since i've started using the BT HomeHub (last router died), about a month ago and they all of a sudden its set to strict. Restarted the router and ended up deleting the profile for Xbox Live ports and making a new one. Seems to be working again now.

Thank you for your entirely useless contribution .

SIGH...

BT Home Hubs are Rubbish for ANY Online Gaming, you need to change your Modem to a different one if your on BT broadband and want to play games.

Get rid of that HomeHub and buy a cheap netgear, your problems will be solved

I'm pretty sure dannyjo uses a homehub and games online every day. It might not of been him though.

I doubt the home hub is a problem if configured correctly.

Been using a homehub for a while now, never had a single problem with it gaming once......

Dont see why it should cause any problems really?

I have reserved addresses for everything on my network. Makes life a lot easier when it comes to port forwarding etc!

For the record it's something like this:

Router is 192.168.0.1
Laptop 192.168.0.5
Printer 192.168.0.10
360 192.168.0.15

Then DHCP starts at 192.168.0.25 in case friends with laptops/macbooks visit, they can just plug in and go, and I can also set the port forwarding up to the 360 knowing it has the same IP address all the time!

Just a suggestion to the OP if he wanted to do something similar.

are people going to actually read posts or keep posting the same answer when hes already fixed it? :)

You can assign IP address to your MAC address of your 360 and still use DHCP. It's more secure if you only allow registered MAC addresses onto your network, as it's not entirely unconvenient to add a MAC address when you get a new piece of kit! :)
