Hi there.

My son has had an Xbox One for many years (must have at least 30 physical discs plus more downloaded) but wanted a gaming PC, which I bought him for Christmas.

He now seems to spend all his time on the PC and I was wondering what to do with the Xbox.

He has already removed Fortnite from the Xbox and put this on the PC, which was free, but we have also rebought GTA5 for the PC.

Should he:

1. Sell the Xbox and all its games and use the proceeds to rebuy the games he likes, again on the PC? There are quite a lot of Xbox games that he never plays.

2. Sell the Xbox but use an emulator to play the Xbox games on the PC? Do these work for every game and are they any good?

3. Keep both machines?

He used to buy lots of cheap used Xbox games on E-bay, can you get similar used games for the PC?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

If the xbox is never used whats the point in having it around?
Used games on PC is not really a thing but keys sites are, as well as Steam sales.

Places like CD Keys and Green Man Gaming (there are many others!) sell serial keys which you then simply add to your account (Steam as an example). I've bought loads off both and there's always bargains to be had. Steam sales also often offer great games for silly prices which is something that just doesnt seem to be a thing on console.

Dont forget if you dont have it already, Xbox Game Pass is also available on PC for £9 p/m and gives access to over 100 games and there are some awesome games in there, inc the full Bethesda backlog and EA Play access

Sell the Xbox and games and purchase more PC games. I've a playstation 5 which never gets used as I use my PC more, and I can find the games cheaper.

Christmas this year??? I.e. he's bored of it in 7 days!! :-)

I used to always get all of them - PS4/Xbox etc - but as part of fooling myself to buying a 4090 I decided to ditch the console now - very happy! Only really missing a couple of games but don't have time to paly them anyway

option 1 for me!

Thanks everyone - seems that it is pretty clear that PC only is the way to go.

I hadn't realised that PC games were that much cheaper to begin with.

I bought my boy a used copy of WWE 2K22, of an "auction site" for £12.00 but have found that the later edition, 2k23, is available for just £9.99. Brand new, the later edition is over three times that on the Xbox One.

Seems that selling the Xbox and all the games would easily fund rebuying the games that he really likes (Red Redemption 2, Halo Collection etc).

Do you think I should sell everything as a job lot or all the games individually?

Also - thanks for the tip about Game Pass for the PC. Again, I did not realise that was possible and is another great option that we will also consider.

I'd go for a job lot simply for ease. The value of things individually will be more hassle than its worth given the low prices of used games these days so while overall you may end up with a little less than spiltting it all out, for ease I'd go for selling it as a whole package.

Also FYI the entire Halo catalog is on Game Pass remastered and runs beautifully so dont go buying it yet, playing through them on the higher fidelity and frame rates that the PC offers was like playing a new game for me :D

One cool thing about having an Xbox and PC is crossplay via a single Game Pass Ultimate account. For example, if there is a Game Pass game that is available for console and PC and supports crossplay, then one person can play on Xbox and the other on PC with a single account. This will not work with 2x Xbox logins or 2x PC logins.
