Bought an Xbox One controller with BT to see if it removed the need for the £20+ wireless controller adapter, here's what I've found...

1. It works! Instant detection and every game I've tried picks it up flawlessly
B. There is no dedicated Bluetooth switch or toggle, it seems to cycle through standard connection and then BT
3. Performance is good but there is absolutely slight lag. Using the controller on PES 2018 (which is far from the most responsive game) and there are times when quick combinations of passing moves and reaction rates are hampered by button presses which aren't picked up on. Switching to wired removes this issue entirely
5. It works with phones! Thought I'd fire up a PSX emulator and it definitely works alright with Android though there is slight lag and the audio doesn't sync well.

Overall it's pretty good, I look forward to Elite V2 with BT included (presumably it'll be announced at E3)

When I looked into it a few months ago, the main difference between the official receiver and a BT4.0 dongle was that the Bluetooth only supported one controller, where the official dongle allowed multiple controllers to connect. You know, for the tiny handful of PC games that still support split screen multiplayer. :D

I use bluetooth but was hoping they were going to bring a smaller wireless adapter out by now.

Ghost Recon Wildlands doesn't play well with bluetooth and never has. I find it hilarious that they've never sorted it.

Buttons assignments swap over etc.

my xbox controller works like poo with my Bluetooth adapter. completely noticeable lag , range issues coupled with the fact windows has a paddy everytime I try and get it to connect …. is there an official adapter?

I've got two Xbox One controllers hooked up to one BT receiver.

MS did release a smaller adapter, though I was hoping it'd be the size of a nano Logitech wireless adapter. Sadly it's still the size of a standard flash drive (still beats the 8 foot long original).

Thanks I never realised this had been released after it was originally delayed.

Will probably buy one and if it improves Wildands keep it.

Yep the official dingle does improve connectivity. You do have to unplug and out it back in from time to time but on a whole works well.

Do they play nicely together as I was under the impression MS don't support more than 1 at a time?
yeah, my kids (son on his own or with his friends, mostly, who's age 8) use them, 2 at a time, for playing sonic racing, goat simulator, and some other stuff, so it's easy enough. We've been using it like this since I got the controllers and PC setup at xmas

Have to re-pair them with the PC every so often (say every couple of weeks they seem to lose contact). Not sure if that's down to user error (kids!) or some glitch.

It's just a £3 or £4 BT receiver from Amazon.

I did also plug in my two xbox 360 controllers from my other pc so that we could 4-player on sonic racing. Those two use the MS receiver (actually a cheap ebay one), and that setup worked fine too.

using Windows 10 pro.
