Xbox one fallout 4 improvements

With my PC GPU waiting in repair on the manufacturers I've been back on the Xbox one.
I forgot how awful the frame rate is on Fallout 4 (combat with multiple opponents, switching weapons mid fire fight) is just killing the experience.
I've read putting an external SSD on the xbone will help, anyone got any other fixes?

(I don't want to buy it on PC due to having no GPU and already forked out a load to have an Xbox with the game and the season pass)

I doubt that's going to improve anything, load times potentially but even then I doubt that too.

Edit: Seems there are some improvements in load times if you use an SSD, don't think you'll get any improvement in regard to FPS etc. AFAIK they targeted 1080p @ 30fps and despite numerous patches the game still often runs at 15-20fps and below in certain sections.

Is this just exaggeration?

No, I originally noticed it when in the city, for example getting ambushed by multiple enemies the game almost feels laggy.

Sometimes if there's a lot of enemies swapping weapons will really slow the game and sometimes won't even draw the new weapon.

Gameplay got really slow and jagged playing the automaton DLC when i rushed the robot raiders base, think they amount of enemies close and the large robot companion was too much.

I have an extrenal ssd and it runs absolutely fine.
I seriously have no idea what any of you are going on about.
It was fine on an external hdd as well

To be honest, everyone should be running their games off a usb3.0 hhd at a minimum given the (proven) benefits and little cost.

I've put in 3 full play-throughs so far on the Xbox one. I've noticed it slow down a little, occasionally, but it's never affected gameplay.

Maybe I'm not so touchy about such things. I gave up PC gaming when the Xbox 360 came out over a decade ago. It's great. My PC now goes 5 years (so far) without upgrading a thing!

Maybe I've got a faulty xbone or something wrong somewhere.
I've never noticed FPS issues previously (I never had a gaming PC, I came from Xbox 360 and got the One just for F4). I've put in plenty of hours on Fallout 4 (now on third play through) so maybe saying it is unbearable was an exaggeration, it certainly was a major disappointment though. Ruins the fast pace action of any short range or melee build.

You're not imagining it, the FPS does tank quite a lot during heavy combat. It get's considerably worse in the built up areas once
the BOS turn up and start wrecking stuff with their gunships.

There was a specific issue with the X1 version where the game would intermittently freeze for a moment. Not sure if that has been fixed now but you could workaround it by installing the game to an external drive (mechanical or SSD). There was an article on this here. It also talks about the more general FPS issues.
