Xbox One & PS4 - Resolutiongate

I really hope they don't throw in the towel. I guess someone else could have a go...Amazon, Google, Apple? Or in 8-10 everything might just be streamed and we won't need consoles...who knows

Or if rumours are true throw in the towel.

So because they've had a bit of a slower start than they wanted, that suggests they'll just give up? MS are in a not entirely dissimilar position to where the PS3 was at launch, and from what I can tell, Sony didn't give up on it halfway through the generation and opt to never release another console again.

Depends what they are measuring themselves against, they still are selling a lot more than what the 360 sold when it was first released.

I'm all for this thread if we make it a blanket ban on bitching about resolution / framerate differences in the actual game threads.

That way I only have to ignore one thread.

Indeed, otherwise we'll end up having to go back to separate threads for each version of a game, as was necessary some years back when the same people couldn't stop themselves from bickering about PSN vs XBL, 720p vs whatever the PS3 version was running at, DS3 vs the Xbox controller etc. The fact that ultimately it's the same game underneath all that seemed to completely pass them by.

There's nothing wrong with having separate threads tbh as long as the title is relevant to resolution/fps/technical details, if it's all in one thread people are likely to miss news unless they check this thread every 30mins.

It just strikes me as censorship that all of it is being forced into a single thread so that Xbox owners don't get offended by it.

I'm not an xbox owner but I also don't want to have to skim through bouts of 30 posts with back and forth bitching just to find a relevant post regarding game features, updates, news etc for every single multi platform release.

Even for Xbox One exclusive I will like to check a thread and see what each game is like as who knows one day there may be enough exclusives that I decide to buy an xbox one, just like 6 years ago I owned a 360 but all the ps3 exclusives led me to buy a ps3 which ended up being my main and only console.

This whole 'resolutiongate' is vastly overrated.

I doubt the average gamer cares, all that matters to them at the moment is one is £80 more expensive than the other and comes bundled with an accessory which has had terrible PR associated with it for the past several months.

If Microsoft can bring the price inline, keep putting out quality exclusives and either justify or remove the Kinect then there's no reason they can't see a resurgence similar to what Sony found with the PS3 Slim. And that would be a good thing.

They're different companies.

Sony's investors haven't been calling for Playstation to be scrapped and Xbox One is unlikely to recover like PS3 did. PS3 was released later than 360 and so it had a lot catching up to do. PS3 was more expensive but it had extra features that people actually wanted (Bluray etc). PS3 had a lot more development hurdles which were holding back game performance (opposed to a flat out inferior hardware specification).

Microsoft investors were calling for the Xbox division to be scrapped even whilst they were flying high with the Xbox 360, there's going to be a lot more pressure this time around.

It's not just the Xbox owners who are finding all this annoying, I assure you.

What is the problem exactly with having multiple threads pertaining to technical differences? it's just the same as having a single thread if you don't like the topic then don't click it. If the title of a thread is about resolution then resolution should be allowed to be discussed.

Because what is happening in game threads, is people stop discussing the game itself and just bitch and whine which version has the higher resolution/FPS.

It's boring now and quickly sapping the life out of all the threads.

Do enlighten me, how does MS "throwing in the towel" or scrapping the Xbox brand pertain to the discussion of render resolutions and framerates?

We're 4 months from launch with still a large number of territories still to be released in, plus we have no idea what games MS will release that will make people want an XO, that's the reason for these consoles, to play games on.

It amazes me people write MS/XO off right away despite strong sales figures, and yet people cling to the fact the WiiU isn't doomed to failure.

I dont want to particularly be in this thread, but I dont really agree with its existence, if people can keep within the topic/game at hand and not use it to go off on tangents/generalisations/extrapolation then theres no reason for segregation.

If people need to told posting etiquette then really thats something far more wrong there...

Honest answer - Id love the Xbox division to be sold to Nintendo as a very strong ongoing concern. Their art style/direction works wonders - far more likely to be taling about that in 10years time than something like Ryse/Killzone...

ps3ud0

The only game I liked on a Nintendo console was Goldeneye. It was easily worth the cost of the console alone. Since then, I'm just not a fan of cartoon'ish games.
