My dad bought a second hand One S today and he is able to download basically any game from Gamepass but he has no subscription. If he goes to the subscription page is shows no active subscription and no other user is signed in to the xbox either. Not sure what is happening here, maybe Microsoft still think the Xbox belongs to the previous owner who had gamepass, or is there some kind of trial activated. Any ideas? I assume this will fix itself shortly and lock him out of any of the games he doesn't own.

Just to be clear he is signed in on his account? Has he checked on the xbox website to see what it says?
It might be there is a trial but i doubt it. Game Pass is tied to the gamertag not the console. But actually that said if the previous owner did game sharing even without their gamertag on that console it would have that console listed as their home console? That could be why your accessing it. Can he play cloud games via the console? As a mate of mine cant as he is sharing my account.

Yes, he is signed in with his own account, when he got it it had been reset and was at the language select screen as a new xbox is. I got him to check and if he goes to switch profiles there is no other profiles there. I'll get him to check the website and see if that shows a sub.
He does not seem to be able to play them via the cloud, I think it tells him he needs ultimate to do that. So you think that the old user still has this console set as their home console on their Microsoft Account thus allowing my dad to access it? Seems to be the only explanation that makes sense to me.
