Without wanting to start a fanboy war...

I'm in the market for a console, not having had one for many years, and I'm just after opinions on whether to get the Xbox 360 or PS3. Having had a look at the games, most seem to be available for both platforms, with the exception of Halo and probably a few others, but I have no idea about the other stuff like size and quality of the online community.

I imagine many of you have both consoles so I bow to your collective wisdom!

E: ooh! 11111th post :p

PS3 has better exclusives and free online, errmm Xbox gets earlier COD DLC. You don't wanna pay subs do you? Get an adapter so the wired xbox pad works on PS3 and you're good to go. But then Halo 4 is coming gah i dunno man get both. You can afford all this expensive PC crap, you can afford the two best gaming machines on the market.

:D

You have to pay for Xbox online?!

Yeah it's a load of balls i'm so glad i have both cus sometimes i'm like "you know what, no i'll play the same game on my trey for free thank you very much.". Also if you like Ass creed, Sony gets more DLC for it every now and then or maybe that was just for the last game in the series. Not sure about the upcoming.

I babble on a lot so i'll just say if you have to pick one and you don't mind missing out on Halo 4, it's gotta be PS3. Better exclusives, visuals and free online.

I went with the Xbox, but purely so I could get Kinect... and because it was the Star Wars edition. :o

I don't know anything about which is the better gaming platform, but I'm quite happy with it at the moment. - I'm really enjoying being able to use voice commands and that it recognises me and logs me into Xbox Live automatically (and recognises that my wife isn't me, and just logs her on locally). - I don't pay for "Live Gold", so I just use the free "Live" account I created to play Batman on the PC. I might look at paying in the future when I'm on cable broadband.

I suspect the PS3 does have better games, and it would have made sense to buy a console that my PSP would work with... but Star Wars. ;)

Get which ever one your mates have.

This. Killing nazi zombies is great, but it's even better alongside people you know. Unfortunately online-play is not cross-platform.

However something that might be of value to you is the PS3's blueray player.

Personally I prefer the 360, feels less hassle to use, on line is integrated better IMO. the 360 pad is way better than the PS3 one too but that's down to personal preference.

One thing to think about is that if you want to play films via USB the PS3 has something called cinavia which cripples it, so look into that first.

I know you have to pay for membership to play online for 360 but its worth it.

What will play a big part is what consoles your friends have, that may also sway your choice?

It maybe worth holding out for the Wii U which is out on the 30th Nov.
PS3 & XBOX 360 are good consoles but old in the tooth now,
just a thought ;)

*Only party chat :D :p

This late in the game either option is a good one, i personally prefer the PS3 exclusives to the 360. but I like to use my 360 more, as I like the interface and the apps.

You wont go wrong with either to be honest.

You cannot store things on the 360's internal hard drive media wise, just so you know. you can with the PS3. which makes it a nice standalone media hub. The 360 also wont read NTFS formatted externals.

Thats one thing that i hate about the 360, yes i'm aware of the fact you can stream from a pc, etc. Not really the point of what i was saying :D

The MS console can't read the MS file system? LOL, I didn't know that!

I don't think any of my mates have a console to be honest! I'm 36 myself so families and other stuff tend to take over at this age... Besides, I imagine you lot would be more than happy to be my online gaming buddies?! ;)

Majority of the games are available on both consoles. Its just few exclusives specific to each console. I have PS3 myself which I haven't really used since using my first built PC almost 3 years now:p

However afaik Xbox360 has slightly more variety of games.

Go with whichever one you prefer with your gut feeling. Gaming performance is more or less same on both consoles.

If you don't have a current gen console and want to buy one then you should get a PS3 and a PS+ sub. You would be able to download quite a few games straight away.

Indeed, for a £40 annual sub you'll get ~12 games on the PS3 - if you get it before the 7th you can get Just Cause 2 and Borderlands included in those 12 ;)

Yeah but, do you know what, Xbox live is just better. I guess that's why you pay for it, no? Buy both for the games but for the online experience there's only one way to go.
