XBOX Wireless controller Question?

Hi i've got an XBOX 360 wireless controller for windows and was just wondering does it turn off automatically? Because the light is still on all the time, I have to open the battery compartment up to turn the controller off :confused:

Yeah it turns itself off about 5 - 10mins, god I hate waiting
