is there a way i can use the xbox 360 controller via the usb charger lead to the pc to play driving games? the ps3 controller is 10x easier to connect!

ive plugged it in, the driver installed and the red light is on, game controller window/programme doesn't see it!! so the xbox button is flashing after i pressed it but still nothing!!!

am i doing something wrong here???:confused:

Nope the USB charge cable for the 360 pads only provide power they don't carry data. To use it on the PC you would need one of those wireless controller receiver jobbies.

I wouldn't have a clue, but if I was to guess I would say no with it being for the PC, since not much PC stuff is sold on the high street these days. You would be better checking out websites that specialise in gaming, which I can't link to I'm afraid otherwise it will just be deleted.

Actually having a quick read around people are saying they don't seem to make them anymore so ebay maybe your best bet.

yer i understand. i may just use a ps3 controller,

you would think being a microsoft product it would just connect like that!

Just buy the wired "xbox 360 controller for windows" for £17.99 (or less?) and have done with it:p

no its not but on one hand you can download the six axis driver and just plug the ps3 controller in, job done, or have to buy a unit which is £20 or buy a wied controller for £18!! ill go with the ps3 controller!

It's no hassle at all. Just do as mame suggested and buy the wired 360 pad for £15-£20. By far the easiest solution. I've got a PS3 as well and I wouldn't bother using the PS3 pad for PC gaming. In all honesty if you want to get the Dual Shock 3 or Sixaxis working to it's full potential with proper analogue axis and support for the rumble effect then you'll have to spend time messing around with stupid 3rd party programs. Time that could be spent gaming should you just stump up 15 quid for the official wired 360 pad. You can buy the wireless receiver but last time I checked they were pricey for what they are.

why? i dont need rumble and axis stuff. if its that hard to just use a xbox controller then the ps32 controller is the easiest option, dont see what the problem is there???? surely microsoft could have easily incorporated 2-3 more wires for data transfer if they know its compatible with pc's

It is simple? If you want to use the wireless 360 controller then you buy the wireless receiver. If you have a wired controller that already works fine.

Also, what kind of games are you playing if you're happy to live without the use of analogue sticks and pressure sensitive buttons? Obviously not racing games, shooters, RTS or basically anything that requires any amount of precision.

the anologe sticks work fine as do all the other button on grid and lfs!

so you have two controllers 1 ps3 and 1 xbox, one you can plug in download a driver and be away, the other you have to go and buy some thing for it to work and it being microsoft! just another downer for them really, why not just make it a data cable too. but maybe that was too hard for microsoft?

Not sure what you mean about the 360 pad not working. I'll concede I was wrong about the PS3 pad though, I've only tried it with GTA3 and Vice City on the PC and I had to download a bunch of stuff for the controller to work properly with those games.

If you have the wired pad you don't need anything, Vista and Win7 will pick the controller up right away and you can use it straight out of the box. Not only that but the majority of new games are already set up so that they already have all the buttons, sensitivity and on screen prompts already set for the 360 pad. It saves a lotta time and it's really convenient.

You can't expect Microsoft to cater for everyone, you can get the wireless receiver, plug it in and that will work just as well as the wired 360 pad. If you already have a PS3 pad and you can use that fine then why are we even talking about buying peripherals and new pads?

You will have to setup every game as well to use a PS3 controller. I also have 2x Ps3 controllers and have never bothered to use them on the PC.

When did they stop making them? Bought a wireless controller a few months back from from the South American Jungle and it had one of those USB dongles.
