Xbox360 dashboard update, finally here?

Beacons feature is really cool, lets you know when friends are online and that sort of thing. Really liking the dashboard, seems a lot snappier and responsive. Just what we need to get parties etc sorted quicker.

Shame the 'dash' within game (after pressing the globe) hasn't changed, still ugly as hell and so slow.

One thing it'd be nice if they added would be a 'gamer calendar'.

Basically you could put down what day's you'd be available during specified time periods, and other friends on your list could see the information and it'd be collated on thier own calendar; so people could organise online sessions etc. Would be a lot easier than typing in and messaging everyone via pad and hoping they get it :D

I'm kinda surprised with the emphasis on friends, and parties, they haven't added something like this already, as you can get similar things on some guild/clan orientated websites, and even in WoW.

Well the beacons can kind of do that. You could set a beacon for a game and in the notes just put "Friday 8pm" or something.

With the emphasis on friends they have managed to butcher the social section pretty well and generally make everything harder to get to.

Another good feature is that it tells you if you've logged in using other console, fine if you swap between two consoles but useful if someone has hacked your acct to buy points...

I hate the new Dashboard, the only good thing about it is I can keep my profile on two xboxs. So now when I go to dad's house I don't have to recover it, then recover it when I get home again.

Once you get past the new layout, there's really not a lot of other changes to the dashboard itself. It's still a little bit too slow to transition between menus/screens and sound effects still get cut off at times. It's disappointing that they didn't use it as an opportunity to tone-down the swooshy effects and sounds a bit.

That said, it's not the final release so it can't really be judged fairly yet.

I don't think it'll ever be super smooth on the 360 due to only having 4mb of RAM available.
