Was reading PC gamer and it says xbox360 live is going to be integrated into Vista from the start, PC gamers will be able to play against and communicate with X360 gamers online via xbox live, also gamertags and acheivements are going to be spread across both platforms, basically the PC will have exacly the same capabilities and be able to use all the same services as the 360 including demos and live arcade,, I think its pretty clever, and great news for pc gaming but kinda spoils it a bit for the 360,, I kinda liked the fact that 360 users had their own little niche,, also I think 360 users are gonna get pwned by keyboard and mouse gamers :(

it'll let you know if someone is using a PC for a game next to their user name and will probably have a feature on the 360 games to filter out PC users if you want.

It's nonsense to a point. PC vs 360 games won't happen unless a particular game targets it (the Warhammer MMPORG potentially being one). The Live! Anywhere initiative will link PC, phone, PDA and 360 gaming together though, using the same branding and same Live! service (achievements, downloads etc).

They also plan on doing 'bundles' on games, so if a new arcade title comes out that you like, you can buy it for your 360, PC, Phone and PDA with one transaction.. so you can play it wherever you want to.. theoretically with the achievements in sync.

The first paragraph of the article says: Microsofts E3 conference gave us the first astonishing glimpse of a game being played online between the PC and the Xbox 360. Shadowrun, an online fps lets up to 16 players either on windows vista or xbox 360 play together through the live anywhere service...

So looks like its definately capable and on the cards for when Vista's out,,

Which is exactly what I said. It will be for titles that particularly want that interaction, not across the board.

I kinda assumed that most games will be capable of PC X360 interaction over live as most games these days are multiformat releases,, only one game so far thats gonna be PC only and thats Crysis,,,,, but im sure it will come to console at some stage.. Thing is the difference between the same game on 360 to PC can be immense, look at GRAW its completely different in the PC version. Do you think the games capable of this will be few and far between?

I think PCGamer were getting a little carried away, but basically it is true.

As for getting owned by keyboard and mouse gamers, there was an interesting account from a developer on that, and how the controller players used to win, because of a little auto-aim that is standard on console games. Very interesting read and one that shows that if games are written for both, the problems can be overcome.

Either that or PC users will get a bad deal from this and have to play 360 ports to the PC in terms of playability and in some cases graphics, which would really pee me off if I had just bought a high end PC...

..but I haven't yet and have a 360 so woo.

GRAW is not completely different, just that the two versions have quite a different focus. But again, that was by choice, thanks to the different target audience. Thats the biggest obstacle, PC gamers and console gamers are quite different.

Crysis is the only PC only game? Eh? Wha?

I must have a split personality as I game on both,,lol,, :)

Just something else I read about Crysis only coming out for PC,, I should really stop beleiving all these magazine articles, I mean so many games are named as only available on *****, but the games always come to other formats later on

So you think that every game that ships on X360 and PC will be cross playable? In my opinion it's only going to be a handful of games that will utilise it. The amount of testing and balancing required for a standard multi-player game is immense; you can probably quadruple it if you take into account a completely different platform too. The Live! Anywhere stuff will give developers the OPTION of cross platform play, just as the have the option to support countless other things, it doesn't mean they will utilise it if it's cost prohibitive or doesn't fit with the game.

'Only on' or 'exclusive' normally means a minimum of 6months before it ships on anything else IIRC.

Crysis is a PC Only Title i thought - i watched a backstage interview with one of the devlopers and he said, and i quote

"Crysis will only be seen on the PC"

I Agree, it will only be a handful, it might even completely collapse on its arse after a few months and stop all together.

However i do like the Achievements integration, just hope they cant be "hack" achieved on the PC :(

so what happens when aimbotters start owning the xbox 360 lot ,although if it helps create online communities im all for it, as cod2 on the 360 doesnt really have a clan system compared to the PC

aslong as theres a filter button i think its a great idea

It's a fantastic idea as it allows for more players online at anyone time.
Personally I'd fancy my chances on a racing game against a PC user.

I would never play against PC users on First Person or Strategy games. Anything else and I'd fancy my chances.
