Xbox360 Natal Release Date and Price

As for preferring a controller I agree, but..

I think it would be a good supplement to just a controller. If it tracked your eye/head movements whilst in cockpit view it could be quite cool.

I agree, but MS seem to be pushing this as a primary controller for games, not an assistant to the normal pad. I quite like the way Sony seem to be approaching the same sort of technology with the likes of Resident Evil 5 'special edition' where you still use the pad, but also use a pointer for aiming.

Well if you guys don't like the idea, don't buy it, simple as.

It has not come out yet so no one knows how this will be applied.

All these "wave your arms about" take us 1 step closer to an almost virtual reality, more immersion than any controller could give you.

But then again I would not be surprised if you still think that keyboard/mouse is the best method of control for any game.

It is for many genres, RTS and FPS being at the top of the list. Different tools for different games, that's what it's all about, the Wii for example is great for party games such as Warioware, games that a pad and mouse and keyboard would fail miserably at, pads are great for beat em ups and platformers, you get the picture. Microsoft are clearly angling this as a primary controller for all genres, something it will fail at. I'm hoping developers recognise the potential it has as a tool to compliment the existing pad with features such as head tracking etc.

It's difficult to ignore the fact that the majority of the games Microsoft have been demonstrating with Natal have been racers and shooters with the odd party game. It'll be great for the party games but inferior to a pad for the others, as i say i hope developers ignore these 'suggestions' by Microsoft and use it for things it'd actually be well suited to.

This 'wave your arms about' rubbish is merely Microsoft's attempt at ripping off the Wii and PS3 motion sensing capabilities. It'll very likely end up as gimmick-ware with a few good games supporting it and everyone forgetting about it in a year or two.

This is especially true in the case of the wheel for Mario Kart Wii. Everyone thinks it's awesome when they get it, and then they realise it's a total waste of space and using a proper controller is much more precise and easier to master.

I also find it difficult to understand why anyone would rather blat their arms around to change selection rather than just hit left on a controller. We're all gonna be tired out before we actually get to playing any games.

For me, gaming is about immersion in the game. You reach the level where it doesn't matter how you're playing, whether it be by mouse/keyboard, gamepad/wiimotes, you don't think about pressing buttons or moving controllers, you just play. So some fancy motion sensing tech adds nothing, because once you get used to it's not important anymore.

Isnt this just based on a leak a while ago? We all knew it was a Nov 2010 release and the £50 price was mentioned a few months back , i see no confirmation at all. I have heard, again unconfirmed, that MS have scaled back Natal Hardware wise to get to a lower price, the CPU that was to do all the movement detection etc has been dumped and it soley uses the 360s CPU.

That's capcom's approach, and looks to be the same as their Wii approach.

True, but my point still stands; that's the way i would like to see motion control developed this generation. The technology hasn't advanced enough for it to be used as a complete control method for complex games.

But then, there's the angle that the technology in Natal is not meant, or rather might not be suitable for, the sort of control planned for Resident Evil 5 'Alternative' as Capcom have only announced a PS3 release, not a Natal adaptation.

Not a bad price, I certainly wouldn't mind trying one out.
Controlling a fighting game would be very interesting, I would probably end up kicking my monitor through the wall. :p

Good price and the same as was rumoured when Natal was announced all those months ago :)
I guess it had to be as cheap as they could to try and appeal to the mass market.

£50 quid would seem about right, as it's hardware wise, just an eye-toy with some tweaks. At the right price it will ensure decent market saturation within a short time frame which will drive more developers to take the tech on board.

Interesting comments on the pricing here - to me its right smack bang where MS will get a load of sales irrelevant if its any good or not - its a good move though its worrying how its being marketed more as a primary device for games in general...

ps3ud0

Awesome price, guarunteed to get one now, as ps3ud0 said, its the price where a lot of people will take the risk on it, I think a £99.99 price tag would have actually = less overall profit in the long run.

I read something that hit a chord with me the other day, and that I keep forgetting about the newer generation of Kid's who are going to grow up with motion control and think of it as great.

My cousin has a Wii and a PS3, but he's constantly on the Wii more often and quite good at aiming, probably not as good as me (:D) but he is only 6 :P.

this seems quite a reasonable price for what seems just like a sensor and 2 cameras, so it's most likely going to sell well with the younger generation because it's in the same price range of a new game.

I would've loved something like Wii/Natal/PS3 Motion as a kid.
