Xbox360 Public Preview Program

When you play the game from the hard drive how often does the disc spin? Is it constantly spinning at like 1 speed or does it just spin every now and then?

The disc spins up so that the Xbox 360 can read the disc ID and get the game name. After that, it never spins again if you are playing from the HDD. The game will quit immediately and return to dashboard if you eject the disc. This is to prevent two people using one disc to play a system-link game for example.

I wonder if the pirates will use this in some way. Imagine either developing a system to mod the eject button so it doesn't report that it's been ejected to the console, or perhaps producing a dummy disc with just the disc id. You'd still need the original disc to install it though.

the xbox copies the entire game onto the hard disk from a user review i read so the dvd hardly spins which is good as mine is loud :)

Hopefully the price of the 120Gb HDD's will come down. The installing games to the hard drive thing is pointless for us 20Gb users unless we install no demos or no extra game content. And even then we could only fit about 3 games on the HDD.

Hi,

well deadspace is 6.6gig so more like two on a 20gb

The absolute maximum size the game data on a 360 disc can be (due to padding, video data and other stuff on the disc) is 6.8GB. I've only experimented with two so far - GTA4 is 6.8GB and Monopoly is 3.4GB.
