xbox360 question hd?

I just brought my son a xbox 360 for xmas but we don't have a hdtv in the house, have i wasted my money or will the 360 be fine on a normal tv for a while till i sort him out a hd after xmas?
He has a 26inch 4.3 tv in his room at the moment does anyone here use the 360 with a non hdtv?
 
Plenty of people use them on SD TV's, however SD and non-widescreen is probably the least desirable option.
 
It depends if you have seen it on a HDTV or not already...

I play on a Dell monitor at my house but when I took it round to my Mum's on her 32" SDTV, I thought the picture look absolutely ghastly. But to them it was fine because they had not seen it at a higher resolution.
 
for almost a year i was playing on a sdtv and loved it it still looked nice even my friends who's a ps fanboy said it looked good on sdtv only recently have i got hdtv and the pictures a lot smoother and crisper thats all .
 
It's fine on a normal TV, widescreen or not. Don't get me wrong, the improvements are great when hooked up to HD and I was impressed seeing the graphics on my mates 32" HD Sony....however I run mine (until xmas at least) on a 26" Supermarket special TV.

Big improvement over PS2 graphics with or without spending a ridiculously large amount on a new piece of technology.

A lot of the hype on the Internet is people trying to justify why they have spent up to £100's or even £1000's on a TV.
 
Perfectly fine on an SDTV, in fact, some may prefer it on an SDTV over and LCD monitor due to the edge smoothing TV's use.

In the long run though, an HDTV is the way to go.
 
Dont worry mate, the 360 will still look magic on an sdtv. I used mine on one for ages, and only got an hdtv when my old telly broke. To be honest I found the step up to HDTV a bit of a dissapointment.

Dont get me wrong, it looks great, but I'm glad I didnt spend 800 quid on an HDTV just for the 360! :)

Do you regret that you sold yours now? You didn't seem to have it very long :) Do you think you might buy another one in future?

100% agree, the difference really isn't that big.

The main difference I noticed when I changed to HDTV was the sharpness in the dashboard. Small text is a lot sharper as well, but aside from that you would probably need a side by side comparison to notice much more difference.

I have the same setup, except 23" TV. It's fine, I really don't mind. Your son will still enjoy it regardless.
