XCOM 2 memory shock

Thanks for the information. There are some people arguing that the 970 can use the full 4GB without slowdown, so always nice to get information directly from someone who currently owns the card and is testing it in current games etc.
I think it depends on the game tbh, in some the ram can be an issue. Others, not so. Personally i think lazy game devrlopers have a lot to answer for. Too easy now to fire out ports and forget about pc optimisation. In the 1080p market for pc gaming you have the 390 and the 970, the former has the vram, the latter falls short on that front. But both lack in the grunt department. 1080p is still a very common res, and factor in 120/144Hz, neither of theese cards are great for max settings. I play a few older games such as crysis 3, bf3/4. Even at 1440p a single factory oc'd 980ti will hit limits. Thankfully now im on a gsync monitor which helps a great deal.

Yeh I'm loving freesync on my 390X @ 1440P - really smooths things out. Can't imagine going back to a normal monitor.

I was mostly referring to the partitioned memory of the 970 causing problems in this game, as confirmed by Humbug. There are some advocating that it's never an issue, despite countless other's having problems once VRAM exceeds 3.5GB.

It's nice having feedback from current 970 owners playing the latest games etc, now I can advise my friend who was considering a 970 for this game.
