Hi guys,

XCOM 1 and 2, no problem. War of the Chosen? I'm struggling...

I'm only about 10 hours into a campaign and I really haven't done anything differently to the previous games but I'm finding it really hard! I don't feel like I'm progressing my soldiers fast enough and I'm not keeping up with the natural flow of the game.

I need some tips? And fast - I'm 8/12 on the Advent clock and you have all those other little missions going off every couple of days. Help :(

Thanks.

If you have not done anything different to the previous games ...
Have you built and are pro actively using (and upgrading) the resistance ring. This is one of the most important buildings in WoTC.
A valid play style is to ignore the doom clock until it changes to hours and then pull it back, but you need to know how to do that.
If the doom clock is really bothering you, look at your objectives and do a golden path mission. These pretty much all reward a reduction in the clock in the early game.
Failing that, find a base with lots of pips and take it out.

There isnt supposed to be a natural flow to the game. Your playing outnumber and outgunned resistance fighters.
In the early game as long as you end the month with more soldiers, supplies, research competed and buildings up then its all good.

The clock is now ticking!!! I reduced it by 1 by taking out a base but I can't access any other sites because I'm not connected to them yet. I don't have a Resistance Comms yet - I'm still excavating a room out. Does this basically mean my game is over now?! I doing the Resistance Ring Ops but maybe I'm doing the wrong ones - they never seem to reduce the Avatar Project.

I swear this is so much harder than 1/2...

Yes it is. Take some time to get used to it. However because it is hectic and constant rushing, after 1 playthrough abandoned the game all together and haven't played for years.
I feel Phoenix Point is better game, at least from my experience with Backers Build 5 (Alpha stage).

To go through the missions in XCOM2 you need a lot of assault guys with dash and shotguns.

OF course PP is going to be a better game if thats the style of game you like playing. Those devs have spent hours and hours playing XCOM2 ripped of loads of stuff, added new stuff and made it more shiney. Just like the xcom 2 devs did with what came before.
They are also targetting different audiences. Hence one got financial backing and the other had to rely on crowd funding. One is simpler and targetted mainstream audiences, the other is way more tactical.

Okay, so I'm in a Chosen, The Hunter's sarcophagus now. All my troops are sound, should I play on?
Keep going until you get the game over screen tbh and then start again.
I have no idea how you managed to get to a point where you havent realy used the RR, dont have a Resistance comms but have a full avatar bar. You must have been churning through the missions and not realy expanding.
You need to be using the RR asap to get the full benefit. If you have your rep maxed with all 3 factions you get more choice of RR missions (one of which can be reduce Avatar by 2 pips).
Its also a great way to get quick promotions. Its main benefit imo though is the cards you get to slot once a month. When you are at max rep and have upgraded the building a few times, thats a lot of very powerfull buffs. (one of which randomly can be to reduce the Avatar by 1 pip at month end).

Also once you have killed a chosen the game gets mch easier.

I beat the Hunter and too out his sarcophagus... quite easily tbh. I've got the Resistance comms and expanded a lot! Just assaulting a base now. I have 8 days left on the clock. Do things still not look great for me?
